Air Traffic control color vision

I was just wondering if the color vision standards for ATC are the same for being a pilot. Can you follow the same alternate testing (FLANT/tower gun) to become medically qualified as an ATC? Thanks again so much for your time.

I think if you fail the Ishihara color plate test, the FAA has slightly modified Farnsworth lanterns called ALT (Aviation Light Test) they use for controllers. The problem with ATC is the move to computer displays there are multiple shades of colr rather than just the old red-gree-white.

If I have a letter of evidence/competence from the FAA for successfully passing the FLANT and I go to get a 2nd class medical for ATC, could I just present that letter and get around the ALT? Thanks again for the continued advice!

Thanks Doc,

Hopefully I can come out to see you next month and take the FLANT. I spoke to the atc medical board and they said for my preference to work at a center I don't have to take the ALT, rather a flight progress strips test where I have to delineate red text from black text. Since I am just slightly deuteranomolus I feel more comfortable with reds.

I do want to get that darn restriction off my second class medical nonetheless. I breeze through the farnsworth flashlight so hopefully it is true to the actual lantern .

Thanks!
