Went over to Fort Smith for their airshow this past weekend. Weather was absolutely perfect for the show. This was the first time that I have ever seen both the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds in the same season, and two weeks apart as well.

First off... my ride over to Fort Smith. Spent the night Friday about 40 minutes away (by air) and stayed with some good friends of mine. Got up early Saturday and flew up the Arkansas River valley. Beautiful time of day to have flown over.

The airshow was put on by the 188th ANG unit at Fort Smith, so it was only right that they had a couple Warthogs on display, including a gun they had recently rebuilt and was out of the airplane.

Nice pics! Looks like a great line-up with the Thunderbirds, Franklin, Stewart, and the Aero-stars.

Awesome shots! Thanks for sharing! What were you shooting with btw?

My camera is a just a simple Nikon D60. Most of the airshow shots themselves are taken with the 70-300mm lens and the static displays are taken using the 18-105mm lens.

edit: I could have played around with a fixed focal length 600mm lens at the airshow. I didn't because I need to be saving money :)

I love that picture of the Beech 19 upside down with the smoke trail.

The other pics are great too.

I'm continually impressed by the quality of the pictures you take Wes. At some point you need to stop giving them away and put them into a calendar and sell them or something. Perhaps send them to aviation magazines or something. Either way, the quality of them - how they're framed, the timing and such are exceptional.

That T-33 with the Thunderbirds paint scheme was owned and flown by my uncle and his partner before my uncle was killed. His partner Fowler Carey still flies it at airshows. Great guy if you ever get to meet him! Small world!
