Hi. I am looking for info on Air Safety Flight Academy. I have sceduled a tour with them tomorrow morning. They have a nice website and seem to be legit but they cost around $50k and I want to make sure I that I am not throwing money away. There website is http://www.airsafetyacademy.com/index.htm . Please let me know what you think.

Proceed with EXTREME CAUTION. They went out of business here in Phoenix and many people lost their money. If you have 50K to spend on training, spend it somewhere else and be very cautious about giving anyone your money up front. You know if you are prepared to do the book work, chair fly regularly, and use flight sim occasinally, you can get your ratings at a local FBO somewhat cheaper.

I would also visit the school and make sure everything is in line with what the website says, especially the aircraft and maintenance facility. The website does look impressive, but anyone can download pictures from the internet and put them on a website. Also, try to get in touch with some current students/instructors and get their opinions. If they are proud of what they do, they would have no problem putting you in touch with students.

Also call Lake Texoma Jet Center, which is the FBO located at the field, ask them about the school's reputation.

the opeation that is in denton moved from phx- would not touch it with your tenfoot pole - they have a horrible reputation here in phx they take your money and run

I should add that these guys have NOTHING to do with Flight Safety Academy in VRB.

This sub forum is for questions about FSA, not about this new outfit.

I can tell you, as a former employee of Dee Pinkston, avoid this place at all cost. He will sweet talk you and try to sell you, but it is all lies. Trust me. He has stolen money from many students and left them hanging. He owes money all around Phoenix and had to move to TX. In AZ his 141 cert was pulled due to poor mx, pass rate, instructor and student feedback, at least 6 accidents in 2009, 1 resulting in a death.

He will tell you he started PanAm flight academy, now TransPac. He did not. He was an instructor for them. He will tell you he started West Wind. He did not. He was a recruiter for them. He will tell you he has tons of airline time and decided it wasn't for him. He actually has less than a year with American Eagle and was fired for DUI's.

He has stolen money from instructors, students, mx, dispatch, and others. I promise you, going to this school will be the worst descision you ever make.

PM if you have any questions or to confirm anything he promises you.

:yeahthat:

Run, don't walk away from that operation. I actually didn't know the PHX / Glendale airport location finally closed their doors. I was a student there from April 2007 to December 2007. Finished my PPL and got my Instrument there. I saw it turn into a mill from what started out as a really cool, small FBO like atmosphere. Dee will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your money. Unless you're a veteran and can get Uncle Sam to pay for part of it through 141, I'd go through a part 61 operator that is smaller and friendlier. my 2 little pennies.

Thank you all for your advice on that company. I am now looking into other schools. I thought it sounded to good to be true. I have even been looking into relocating to places near good schools. Just dont want to pay more than I am paying now.

Stay far far away. I worked for ASFA in Phoenix out of KGEU. Dee is basically a used car salesman, he will tell you whatever he thinks you want to hear to get you to come to his company.

Everything that the other people told you on this thread is true. Instructors had to file wage claim forms to the state of AZ to get paid. I think that says it all right there.
