Position Description


As a Air Refueling Operator in BT&E Flight Operations, tasks could include: Performs in-flight aerial refueling research, development, test and evaluation for KC-46A aircraft and systems. Contributes to the evaluation of advanced air refueling components and performs boom and drogue testing. Participates in air refueling hardware tests. Develops procedures and techniques, writes and edits technical source data to include flight manuals. Operates and monitors onboard aircraft test equipment. Participates or facilitates product improvements, evaluates system upgrades regarding air refueling systems, operational techniques, design improvements, Air Refueling Operator Station (AROS) ergonomics, and human factors interface requirements through ground and flight testing based on test data and applicable standards. Evaluates human factor designs as related to boom or drogue control systems and flight operations. Performs ground and flight duties as they pertain to Acceptance Check Flight (ACF), Functional Check Flight (FCF), and under supervision performs experimental/engineering testing (e.g., preflight, normal and emergency checklists, post flight, test conditions) as part of the flight crew when designated by company, regulatory, or other government requirements in order to facilitate safe and efficient flight operations. Under supervision, acts as part of an integrated team to ensure safe and efficient operation of the aircraft adhering to the principles of crew resource management (CRM) (e.g., communications, decision-making, situational awareness) and company/regulatory guidance. Performs ground and flight duties (e.g., preflight, normal and emergency checklists, post flight) as part of the flight crew when designated by company, regulatory, or other government requirements to ensure safe operation of the aircraft. Compiles technical data for review of air refueling to planned receiver aircraft or planned test conditions in order to facilitate safe and efficient in-flight aerial refueling. Prepares or participates in preparing documents for review by higher level specialists; documents any operation that fails to meet systems specifications, provides flight crew inputs for operational consideration. Briefs prospective customers at trade shows, symposiums, and professional associations to increase the customers' awareness of Boeing products and services. As an Instructor Boom Operator, conducts customer boom operator ground and flight training at customer locations. Travel to customer bases in multiple locations throughout the United States required for periods up to 90 days; some travel to remote test facilities and customer facilities (domestic/international) in follow on customer nations and subcontractor sites as required.

Are you a Central Flight Instructor course graduate with over 500 hours instruction experience?

Do you have KC-135 or KC-10 Flight Crew experience?

Typical Education/Experience


Level 2 - Bachelor's degree and typically 3 or more years' related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level 3 - Bachelor's and typically 6 or more years' related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.






Other Job related information


Required for the position: Previous military experience; current and qualified Instructor Boom Operator, or ability to become re-qualified in minimum time. Test experience at a US Air Force test facility; Central Flight Instructor course graduate with over 500 hours flight instruction experience; KC-135/KC-10 flight crew experience required. This position requires travel for long periods of time and with possible remote locations; irregular work shift and schedule as needed to accomplish the statement of work. Passport required. Require passing an FAA Class 3 flight physical, physiological training (altitude chamber) and flight crew performance screening.
Desired: 1,000 hours KC-10 boom operator hours. Prefer Bachelors Degree in a Science-related discipline. Additionally, Standardization and Evaluation and formal training experienced desired.
