It's a bit of a weird order...Eight 777's and two 7E7's + the option for 42 more planes. Oh well, who cares if it's weird? Good for Boeing and even better for the 7E7!

According to the article, once the 777's arrive they will have a total of 44 aircraft in their fleet. Why on earth did they take 42 options? Assuming they exercised those options that would almost double their fleet.

Wow! That is simply amazing news, the orders for the 7E7 keep rolling in, according to a press release China Eastern is very curious about the 7E7 & could place an order as well.

I hope that we get a 7E7 simulator at Alteon Training in Long Beach, this way I have a new toy to play with.

Air New Zealand, 7E7 & 777 cheaper to operate than Airbus

Now this is very interesting!:

Air New Zealand has turned down cheaper aircraft offered by European manufacturer Airbus because arch-rival Boeing offered lower operating costs.

The surprise decision to spend more than $1.35 billion on 10 aircraft from the United States manufacturer overturned expectations Airbus would swing the deal through discounting. Air New Zealand chief executive Ralph Norris said the Boeing aircraft offered the best value over their lifetime despite a higher initial cost.

The airline signed agreements yesterday to buy four new Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft, which seat more than 300 passengers, and lease four others at a total cost of over $1 billion. It will also buy two 230-seat Boeing 7E7s for a further $350 million, becoming just the second customer for a plane which has not yet left the drawing board.

It's not that uncommon to have many options included in an order. Plus, NZ is expanding. There's talk of AKL-asia-LHR in addition to the AKL-LAX-LHR. They are soon to start AKL-SFO and CHC-LAX, and I'd imagine there's other expansion plans underway. They might also be considering the 777 options as a replacement for the 747 fleet--who knows?

Got my first flight booked on them this fall and I'm looking forward to it very much! Too bad the 777s and 7E7s won't be in the fleet by then---I love that new airplane smell.
