Air Force Already Getting New Uniforms?

They are looking to improve the sage green boot. Initially when people started wear them (specifically people who work outdoors) the suede boots would stain and look like absolute crap. I can't remember why but for some reason they are not authorized for wear in the AOR either. I hate them, the AF should just stick to the tan boots with the ABU's (which is also authorized until a solution is presented). I will shed a tear and pour one out when I am not authorized to wear the black boot with the flight suit anymore anymore.

I'm trying to figure out what was wrong with black leather in the first place.

So long as they don't 'outlaw' black leather with flight suits, I'll be okay.

At first I was a little saddened about the pickle suit and black boots were going away in the Army. But once I wore the two-piece nomex flight suits I began to prefer them much more. At least to me they breathed easier, more comfortible, you could take the top off when it was too hot, and a whole lot less hassle when making brownies in the porta-john. Also black leather boots and 120-degree days don't go well together.

The only disadvantage of the two piece that I came across is that I had to verbally tell everyone I'm this awesome pilot.

Army doesn't like pilots looking different, it seems. I remember as an ALO, being on a training op with them, the pilots in the crowd during the rock drill had on LBE, Kevlar helmet, facepaint, etc. Then had to remove all that crap to go fly. Then had to put all that crap back on for debrief. Was weird.

The AF leaders can't stop screwing with the uniforms. Every year, I think those fools sit around at the "Corona" conference and talk about how they can change the uniform. It gets really annoying...

I do like the new flight jacket....nomex and gortex together. It's an expensive little thing, but it rocks!

Yes. The senior leadership has become very ghey, even moreso by the year. Same with the majority of AF SNCOs. I've seen USMC E-3s with more leadership ability than many of our E-7/8/9s. The AF has, and keeps perpetuating, it's identity problem. Create problems so we can solve them. Stupidity at its finest.

Ever get the tan nomex flight jacket?

There are actually two different types of tan nomex jacket. The one I was issued for OIF in '03 looks like it's made of canvas. The one I was issued for OEF in '07 is shiny just like the normal flight jacket.

What is the new one -- I haven't heard of that.

Haven't heard either what the new one is. But yeah the later tan nomex jacket is pretty cool and useful. Are there tan g-suits yet, so uniforms can match? :D

I remember being pissed in '03 when I got the canvas-looking one. It's real Aramid, and in the same style as the CWU-45/P, but it just looks goofy. I don't remember the actual nomenclature of it. It's sitting in my storage unit, otherwise I'd take a photo of it and post.

The tan one I got was the CWU-36/P summer version. I wanted a -45/P winter version of it but none were in stock at my base at the time.

What ever they do, I hope they come up with a better solution than what they have now. My first pair of tan boots is already dark and if they left the boots the way they are, the leadership would want us grease monkeys changing into clean boots when we leave our work area. Lame!

The DM and HO wings, when I was there, wouldn't let the CCs marshal out their jet unless they had their BDU top on......couldn't do it in a T-shirt and BDU pants (when they were working in 100+ heat) because they had to "look professional" on the line. I could give a rats ass what the CC looked like.......I was concerned with could he work the jet and get his job done, and was he given the tools to do so. Could care less about crap done "for looks".

But hey, that's the AF.

Here is a link to the new deal:

When I went to get a new summer weight jacket, they said they were out of stock and this is the "new" one. It's pricey on the website, but it's about $550 from individual issue. I don't have a tan jacket, since I don't wear the tan flight suits too often.

What could be better than black leather?

Nothing. Until I am FORCED to wear the new sage or blue-berry or whatever they are calling it now, I will continue to wear my black leather Bellvilles.

That new jacket doesn't look too bad. In fact, that's a lot like the tan jacket I have looks like, sans the GoreTex pulls.

The problem is that every time the Army changes the "BDU" uniform Aviation Branch spends millions to make us look like everyone else. I've seen advantages and disadvantages to both. Personally I prefered the tan one piece with the suade boots, except, as you pointed out, when taking care of business. Of course my greatest fear was was having my 9mm fall into a porto-potty and having to tell my CO that I lost it.
