If any of you are aware of the show Air Emergency on National Geographic theres a great documentary of FedEx 705 from back in 1994 when auburn calloway tried to take over the plane and hijacked the crew....I turned it on and saw my friend's dad and it was kinda shocking....Great documentary but brings back some bad memories from 13 years ago.....

those guys took one hell of a beating and still managed to land that thing. heros in my book. could have been a horrible day.

I saw those guys at Oshkosh, the three of them were on stage and there was a moderator who may have been the author of the book. It was one of the most memorable presentations I've seen at Osh. The one who was most severely injured from being struck in the head with a hammer still had difficulty with his speech. He obviously was never going to fly again, but I thought the other two might be able to get back into the cockpit. They have not.

The only thing Mr. Tucker gets to fly now is a Luscombe and its only when Andy (his son) flies with him. Those guys are absolutely incredible and about a year ago I got to hear Mr. Sanders' take from the ordeal and that was absolutely amazing and very touching...
You are right, heros in my book as well

This was all carried out by a mentally ill crew member, yes? I believe he was diagnosed with a severe mental disorder and is institutionalized?

Mentally ill hardly....That knuckle head knew exactly what he was doing and like lloyd said, he was about to get fired for lying on his resume...his hearing was the next day

be sure and keep your eyes peeled on the national geographic channel....Its on a couple times a week sometimes late at night and sometimes mid afternoon....

For right now tho, its discovery channel for deadliest catch! :yar:

The hijacker was suffering from an extreme case of paranoia - apparently in the Navy he had often accused superiors of being out to get him and racial prejudice - same story at FedEx. He had planned to get back at FedEx by hijacking a DC-10 and crashing it into the Memphis hub. He even flipped the circuit breaker to the CVR before the crew arrived to try and make sure nothing was caught on tape (the FE caught this, however in preflight). He wanted his kids to get his life insurance funds. Really interesting and sad story.
