Air Canada pax fined $71,000 for disrupting a flight

It's probably not enough when you figure in the time people lost, the fuel, the police expense, the additional time on the aircraft, etc., etc. But, it's still more than would be done in the U.S.
 
I work for a carrier that, if you act a fool and they have to divert, you're going to receive a bill. And last time I was at recurrent, the gentlemen said that they've been very successful in recouping costs from passenger diversions.
 
NOT excesive in the least.

Think about the cost of hotel alone that the Airline had to put forward. 317 people $120 (?) per person; $38,000.
