the wording read funny: " Salary is around $2200 per month take home pay - a good chunk of which is non-taxible per diem. Company pays for rental car and your own hotel room(within budget)."

So, you're being paid X as a salary less what this company is considering non-taxable per-diem - but the company pays for car & hotel. So what they're saying is that your per diem is your food pay. The average per diem rate for food (excluding hotel / car) is $55.00. So, of that "non-taxable" per diem you would only get to claim the difference between your daily pay and, in this example, $55.00 if and only if you were paid less than $55.00 per diem in that city.

If you continue on with this example, you would only be claiming $385.00 per week as a deduction at a MAXIMUM, totaling $20,000 annually for your taxes. Since the company is paying $2,200.00 per month ($26,400 annually), you have to assume that $20,000 is "per-diem" and you're really getting a salary of $6,400 plus whatever you can save by being thrifty. There's no mention of rental car gas being inclusive, so take that into account. You could blow through that "per deim" pretty fast and have little to show for it on the other end.

Just my $.02

Stated another way, most people get paid a salary with a per diem to take care of food expenses, not the other way around of getting paid a per-diem which is inclusive in the salary.

Caveat emptor

The fact that per diem isn't income aside, it's fair to let applicants know the amount of money they'll have coming in each month.

The position has been filled. Thanks to all who applied. There will be other opportunities coming up. And another special BIG thanks to Moxiepilot for looking out for the well-being of all you pilots who he doesn't feel like are smart enough to do your own math or make your own career decisions. BTW, in addition to the rental car and hotel, the rental car fuel is also paid by the company.

Don't get your tail out of shape just because I'm pointing things out. You take it so personally because you're so involved. It doesn't mean that I'm wrong...

Also, why insult me when ILS37, TwoTwoLeft etc. etc. pointed out that per diem is not income as well? Just because I laid out the math?

Why insult someone in announcing the position is taken?

Postion filled. Thread closed. Very happy to hear someone got a job, that's always a good thing.
