"ADF Required" and GPS

\"ADF Required\" and GPS

Help, please, with this question. When a plate states "ADF required," I know that you may substitute IFR approved GPS, but I cannot find verification for this notion either in the FARs or in the AIM. Can anyone help?

After seeing that 100% on the written, my CFI-IA is giving me gotchas in order to help me prepare for the oral.

Re: \"ADF Required\" and GPS

AIM 1-1-20, f. 5. (a)-(f) explains everything a GPS can be used in lieu of for IFR ops.

Re: \"ADF Required\" and GPS

Can do it on all IAPs except the NDB w/o GPS overlay. The rule became effective July of 1998. Also, can't use GPS-only for alternate selection, nor can you use the GPS in-lieu-of DME on a Localizer by manually entering coordinates, they must be in the database.

Check out Advisory Circular 90-94, as well as AIM 1-1-20, like previously posted.
