Accelerated CFI Courses

I am a week away from my commercial multi instrument ride and I want to jump right into doing my CFI. I could do it here at UND, but I might not so I am looking for another program that is fairly quick.

Besides ATP and Shebles, does anyone here have recommendations on accerlerated CFI programs?

Thanks

Oh yeah, thanks for the info

If you want to come to lovely Prescott Arizona we can have you done generally in 2 weeks or so if you've got the writtens passed and some extra stuff taken care of. Just totally disregard that post on Prescott, AZ. It was biased...kinda.

We are one of 7 actual certified accelerated flight training schools...it's weird that's actually what our 141 certificate says. Just take the advice of Larry the Cable Guy...

My first instructor got his CFI at American Flyers in Dallas ~3 years ago and i believe he said he wouldn't go back. However I don't know too many specifics.

What place do you work at in Prescott?

I did the course at Shebles a week ago, if you want more, feel free to email me direct about it. Been outta town on a little vacation since, but I'll get a write up done, and post some of the pictures I took down there soon.

I have actually heard some horrible things about it. My good friend (fly_by_night...if you're reading this, let us know what you think...) went there for the 30 day CFI-CFII, and said that he wouldn't go back. He refers to it as American Flyers due to the fact that after 30 days (and maybe 4 hours in the airplane), you're only ready for one checkride. Aparently, many people leave with one instructor ticket and them have to finish the second elsewhere!

Why don't you take the second 6 week session for CFI? Or is it the 9 week session here at UND? Either way, you'll get it done really fast but be prepared to work your ass off with those lesson plans.

(1) Might not be done with 325 in time. I am on my stage so I have a week to get it done, just waiting for a pilot.

(2) Cheaper somewhere else.

(3) I could get all three certs in less time somewhere else than I can do one here.

Hmmm... I am teaching a CFI Academy class in American Flyers.

You get 10 hrs in the a/c for both ratings. There is a requirement to be IFR and a/c current to CP standards before you start your training.

Remember mtsu_av8er, this is an intensive course and it requires a lot of hard work: Not only you need to come up with your lesson plans (which are covered in class) for both ratings, but you need to pass two written tests as well. And all this in 30 days. Those who stay after class and practice in a sim or do teaching sessions in groups generally have a lot of success. However those who think that just because they paid the $$$ they will automatically be ready when 30 days are up, find themselves disappointed.

Checkrides are scheduled after a candidate is ready. When scheduling with the FAA one could end up with a three weeks waiting period.

BTW, as a CFII I get a premium per student if I complete a course in 30 days and students pass their checkrides from the first attempt.

[/ QUOTE ]

That does happen, but not often. Most commonly pilots run out of money. After 10 hours included in the initial package are up you pay by the hour.

I can read the ads, too. All I'm doing is passing on one individuals experience. You experiences may be different.

As should be expected.

I have no doubt! I've done some intensive course, too, and I know that they can be alot to swallow. I'm not bashing here.

That's not what the advertisement says, however. It reads "BOTH INSTRUCTOR LICENSES IN ONLY 30 DAYS". There is a difference.

Really, if the program advertises that the product is delived in 30 days, why is there a bonus for simply providing the product? I could see a premium if the product is delivered early....or maybe there really isn't much chance at getting it in 30 days....

From what I heard (which could be wrong...), those hourly rates are pretty steep. Have any documentation from the school? I imagine that there are lots of contract signed at the beginning of the course. I'd love to see some of those, so I can stop advising people to stay away from that place. The last Flyers instructor that I asked for refused to let me see any....

No, I don't think there is a single school in the country that can guarantee you two ratings after 30 days. There is a scheduling and waiting for the checkride time. Those who are in a rush can fly to our Florida's office where you can get a checkride scheduled within 2 days. Most prefer to stick to the FAA locally.

I am not sure what you mean by this, but I get a $$ reward for signing a student within a 30 days.

Well, a lot of times it depends on students as well. If I get a class of pilots who haven't flown in 2 years, it will take a long time to get them current. Also, it's not a college course where I can stimulate students by giving them an F and threatening to fail them for the course. It's not unusual to have a student come in unprepared for the lesson because he/she had other commitments over the weekend. Like I said, the student has to be motivated and do his homework. I can't learn the material for him, right?

No, there is no 'contract' signed. Flyers is a great school and despite some bad publicity, there are a lot of students (incl career) that decide to do the training. Why? Mainly because the school will go out of its way to please customers. FYI, Flyers is the largest flight school in the country by the number of plains and by the number of pilots it graduates.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it's very expensive, $175 /hr for dual in C172R. I wish it was cheaper because then we would get a lot more students. But as a low paid CFI I have no say in these things. It's all decided in Chicago.

I did all 3 instructor ratings in 5 weeks at my local FBO. It was self paced and required A LOT of work. You don't need to go to any fancy school to get it done in X number of days. I didn't have to do a required number of hours for each rating. Train to proficiency. It took 16 flight hrs for the CFI, 3 for the CFII, 5 for the MEI, which saved me a lot of money.

Strange, he actually went to the Florida office.... And I know that no flight school can guarantee two ratings in 30 days. That would be false advertising, or at the least misleading. Wait, I think I have the ad here...

I refuse to believe that nobody signs anything when almost $3000 is exchanged at once.

And I have no doubt that it's the largest flight school in the world - the advertisement above says so!! oh, wait - that's the same one that says that you'll get both ratings in 30 days...

Awesome videos! That looks like so much fun. I hope to have that experience one day as well, doesn't the EAA do rides in a B-17?
