AA\'s F100

Hey,

Since American is retiring their Fokker 100 fleet later this year, I thought this would be a neat topic to bring up. I was wondering if anybody has any experiences that they feel they should share on AA F100. Also, is there anybody planning on flying somewhere on a AA F100 soon?

Re: AA\'s F100

As an AA employee who spent many hours as a flight attendant and passenger I will miss my dear little Fooookker.

Maybe it was because I came over after spending so many years at Eagle, but I like the size of the ac and the places it took me. Of course having to serve a full FC dinner between ORD-MSP was a challenge, but I liked only having 8 people to serve (as #1, the FC FA). Many FAs didn't like it, and that's probably why I, being so junior, got such great schedules flying it. Some of my favorite memories of my time with AA are my months on the F-100 doing the long DCA overnights.

So, like the Shorts, I say 'goodbye' to a good airplane.

Re: AA\'s F100

I didn't like them because they only had the front door, I used to clean the planes and that was annoying, but other than that they were great, are they going to replace them with anything else, EMB's or 737-800?

Re: AA\'s F100

Yeah, the 'no exit in the back' thing was a BIG reason why a lot of people didn't like them. It never bothered me though, because even if you're in the very back (like the #2 FA) the window exits aren't that far away.

Re: AA\'s F100

Ok this thought just came into my head

Those MD80's look like they are next to go for american, especially after all of these planes have left (DC-10's, MD-11's, 727's, and now the F100) as far as I know nobody is making any new regional planes (Except for the 737-8, 9). Where is american going to go or do when those Mad Dog's have to retire?

Re: AA\'s F100

I think what these airlines are trying to do is consolidate all their types. It leads to lower costs in training and they are easier to maintain. They are trying to mimick the Low Cost Carriers (LLC's).

Re: AA\'s F100

AAs decision to get rid of the F-100s has a great deal to do with availability & price of parts, and fleet commonality. That is eliminating orphans.

Don't expect the MD-80s to go anywhere for a long while. They're here to stay!

Re: AA\'s F100

I just love the Super 80's. They look really good in AA colors. I'm glad that AA will be keeping them around for a while.

A quick note. American is planning on taking the Super 80's, 738's, & CRJ700's to fill in the routes that the F100 are leaving from. At the moment, they have no plans to purchase any new aircraft.

Hey Joshua949, This is off the subject but.....

In your avatar that plane looks like an MD-80, but all american MD-80's have black noses, is that an MD-80, or am I just missing something?

It's a former TWA MD-83, but now painted in AA colors. It was also the last MD-80 to wear the TWA colors.

It's registration is N948TW.

Re: AA\'s F100

I have never flown the F100, but I will be taking a flight in one in a couple weeks on a connector flight up to Chicaga.... Ill let you know what I think after that!

Re: AA\'s F100

I didn´t like them. I remember they brought a LOT of problems to TAM (brazil). Too much trouble for such a new plane...
