A350 Decides to Abort Takeoff

I am really hoping there is more of a technical explanation for this.

Wonder if someone forgot to enter all the required data like the Airways bus in PHL?
I'm sure we will find out in time.....

An auto aborting airline. Somehow I think I'd better look this up.

I enjoy the sensational use of verbs and adjectives in the article that give the impression an imminent hot explosion was about to happen where all the passengers would have slowly melted to death.

There are several "runway awareness" systems out there that have the capability to do something like this. Check out the Brake to Vacate logic that Airbus has had for several years now.
BTV is cool as all giddy-up, but taking the decision to stop out of the hands of a human operator is a lousy idea.

(And before everyone gets excited, yes, I am aware of the RTO accident rate.)

Sounds like someone fat-fingered something somewhere (GIGO - Garbage In Garbage Out) . . . it's a sign of the modern times when an error like that brings everything to a screeching halt :D

Sorry, the ex-computer geek in me still breaks out from time to time.

If it did RTO on its own, I'm surprised the computer let the airplane gain that much speed prior to the RTO.

Call me crazy but I like the way this is going with aborting. Automating it and all. Way too many things to keep track of and make instant split second decisions without all the info available. Also I have (personally) seen guys abort for non-event items in real life and in the sim at least, not abort for abortable things. Not saying you can't give a pilot the ability to also abort.

I would bet there are a lot of unnecessary aborts due to pilot error.

You can't say abort it's offensive to the female crew...It's reject now...:sarcasm:

I hope the 320 doesn't get this system.

IMO the PHL crew should have just slammed it into TOGA and kept going. The list is pretty small for items to abort for near v1
