A question about company recommendation etiquette.

A guy walked my resume into airline X and also submitted a great letter of recommendation; I appreciate him putting his neck out for me. I now have an interview this week.

I applied to freight company Y before applying to airline X, but hiring at Freight Y was cancelled. Now the freight company in hiring again and after sending e-mails back and forth to HR saying I am still interested, HR said, "I will be in touch in a few weeks to begin an interview process with you. "

I don't have a few weeks, if things go well on Friday, I will be in class in a month.

I want to work for both companies, but I want to work for the freight company more.

In a nutshell, if I take the airline interview but turn down the job, will i negatively affect the guy who walked in my stuff?

What would you do? What do the guys who have given company recommendations think?

Thanks
-Douglas

Talk to the guy who walked in your resume and confer with him.

Ultimately, you need to do what's best for you in terms of your career goals, but you need to be sensitive to people that helped you along the way.

I agree with Doug.

However I would first wait to see if you even have to make the choice, i.e. both outfits offer you a job. Then if you have to make the choice talk to your reference at airline x, let him know what you think and hopefully he understands. If he doesn't, then you really have to evaluate what you want more: a job with the freight company, or a job at an airline with that friend still a friend.

However please let me know which job you don't take so that I can have it. :D

Let me expand on that -
Solid advice...for the trash can. Thanks but no thanks, dogs.

Yeah. I am going to send him an e-mail today about getting an interview (happened quick) and I will phone him tonight about the two possibilities.

Just checkin' brotha! :)

You know it IS the internet.

"Calling all math majors! is 2+4 six?!"

"Yes!/Indeed!" x 20 times

"Welll, I'm not really convinced, I'm going to go with 7".

How about hooking some brothers up with the job you didn't take? :)

Well man, I don't have any advice or words of wisdom to give, but I'm happy for you. Good Luck!

Leaving this place will be tough, but I'll cross that road when I come to it. It could still be a long way down the line.
