Any of you guys have an A&P on top of your dispatch license? Has it helped in any way while dispatching. Just want to see if anybody does. I know some have their pilots license but haven't heard of anyone with an A&P.

I'm not sure if it would help getting a dispatching gig, however there is plenty of MX available out there. The thought of getting an AP license has crossed my mind, that's for sure.

I meant in terms of day-to-day operations. I'd like to get it later on down the road to get a better understanding of the MX side of things.

I do I have never worked in dispatch though. I was a mechanic for almost 20 years for NWA and a Maintenance Controller for FedEx for going on 8 years but I kinda want a change am hoping to go to GOC (dispatch) just haven't made the move yet. But I do think an A@P with experience in aircraft systems would be a benefit. FX has hired internals for dispatch with no experience that were out of the hub or other non aircraft areas. I have been involved in FAA proving runs am ETOPS qualified on the MX end know airplanes and aircraft systems more than most dispatchers I think it would be a benefit but would it get you hired? Who knows...But if your asking me if an A@P is worth it I say no. You can get a dispatch ticket in 5 to 6 weeks vs close to 2 yrs for an A@P dispatchers make as much or more than A@P's do and have benefits MX does not have like CASS. Sorry I ever got my A@P

Unless you have previous MX experience with your carrier or similar, having an A&P with no experience will not benefit you in any way on the DX side of things.
