It may be new, but it will never surpass the rock solid C-130:rawk:

Turbo props are so sexy.

I'd have a great opportunity in the coast guard if my college had more minorities. Oh well.

Need to get rid of the Falcon's. Know a few guys that fly for Cost Guard and all they ever say is that they have NO idea why the Coast Guard has those.

No, they fly twice as fast as the hercs and can cover a helluva lot of coast line.

Just another fixed wing slot, fine by me.

Best thing about the Cost Guard is they dont discriminate against people with poor vision.
They dont? I thought their aviators were trained with the squidos and us jarines down at pensicola. When I got my specs back in 93 there was no naval aviator training open to those with corrected vision. That very much killed my goals of becoming one.

And yes, the herc is awesome.

"Qualifications for Coast Guard pilots:
A qualification for Flight School includes passing a Class 1 Flight Physical. Two big issues aside from being in good physical health are dental and vision requirements. The dental exam will check for cavities and other problems with teeth and gums that may be affected by changes in air pressure while engaged in flight. Basically you will be required to have no dental problems and no cavities. Vision requirements are also very stringent. Eyesight should be 20/20 if not, it must be correctable to 20/20, no exceptions. Uncorrected visual acuity must be better than 20/50 in either eye. There are other limitations imposed based on the type and strength of the lens prescription. In addition, normal color perception, depth perception and field of vision are also required."

Don't know if their initial physical is more intense than recurrents like the AF. The AF vision requirements look similar on the surface. In fact, the AF says 20/20 corrected 20/70 uncorrected, but the initial physical goes deeper. Doesn't mean that you will pass the vision part if you have 20/15 uncorrected.

Champcar, what does the Coast Guard look at with vision, exactly? Just acuity?
