A good trend

I've heard from several freight pilots that on demand freight is one of the first indicators of an economic recovery.

Seems to be that way.... I flew approximately 50k miles in September, dropped down to about half that last month because of maintenance issues.... but truth be told, all the on demand falcon and lear drivers are getting tired :)

Our company just got another crew last month, and assuming we get more motors - may be getting more falcons up (read: upgrade).

Good to see things running like they are right now, since I didn't fly between May and September.

It would be nice if AMF got back more into the on demand game. Right now it seems they don't have enough crew or aircraft for that though. Overall, they are keeping really busy with the regular customers.

I haven't heard any rumors about Dash 8's. I have heard rumors of them looking at 1900's though!

a little birdy told me that labquest once again decided they didn't like the mitsi, so they're getting returned and my former employer is bringing back a few guys on a contract basis...things are definitely picking up. Pretty sure I could go back but need the insurance in case my drinking catches up w me. Anyone want to lend me a few grand to get out of this contract and this stupid unpressurized sleep inducing king air? ;)

the way we swap planes if we used purple paint we'd need every hondo in the fleet to say fedex.

saw a usa jet falcon in sdf last night. they were against the ropes a couple months ago right?

Sure thing, Boris. But it will be at a 29% interest rate compounding hourly with a provision to triple without notice but no earlier than two days before you get the loan. I also charge an annual fee equal to 2.7 times the daily average balance and will accept a house, boat, motorcycle, or blood relative as collateral. If you fail to make a payment on time you understand and agree to never drink or smoke again and to attend mandatory counseling sessions at a gay bar while signing an affidavit for public exposure which states you believe 250 hour commercial pilots are the best choice for captaining 121 airliners.

As long as I don't have to say anything nice about the Army.

They were. Down to just a few DC-9s and the falcons were mothballed. Now the Falcons are coming back online and the pax and cargo dc-9's have been pretty busy. Both Kalitta and USA jet cargo 9's have been doing auto parts recently at my airport.

Funny story with a kalitta dc-9 charter...

GM chartered it to get a set of engine blocks to the factory ASAP from a tractor trailer that was already driving to the factory. The semi was enroute to Detroit and was passing through Indiana and they routed it to our airport for the charter. Well the Semi arrived but it took almost 2 hours for the chartered dc-9 to show up. Then it took over an hour and a half to unload the semi because it had to be done at our loading dock then each individual pallet had to be fork lifted over to the plane. About 1/4 mile away from the dock. Then the crew had complications with the paperwork. etc. etc. So all in all it took about 4 hours or more for the auto parts to go from the semi to its destination (nevermind unloading from the plane onto another semi then transport to the factory, maybe looking at 6 hours?)

So if the semi would have kept driving to its original destination as intended it would have been there in 4hrs, 5hrs max. How much does it cost to provide 2 semi's and a DC-9?

Wonder why GM is broke?

I had a similar experience last winter. Picked up some car parts in mo except oops they didn't have a forklift. And then the semi got lost. Then there was a ground stop for weather. When I got to detroit on the bleeding edge of my duty time, the guy driving the truck (a furloughed dc-9 driver for usa jet) didn't have a way to unload the palletes (apparently they didn't tell him what was coming.) went to the hotel, stuff was gone in the morning. Whos running this circus, anyway?
