A/C Down at Hayward Exec (Oakland)

The news just called it "...this Cessna, small plane..."

Sheesh!

Looks like a King Air 350.

Scared the devil out of me too. I'm mentoring a guy who is instructing out there. Woo! Me no likey surprises!

Still no word on the pilot or passengers though... thats usually good thing by now though.- no word this early on usually means a good outcome.. but I won't jump to conclusions.... Hope everyone is OK!

"The pilot was the only person on board. He escaped from the aircraft just after the crash and is uninjured."

Good to know.

Does anyone know if theres a picture where you can see the reg? Looking at the colors it looks like 840CP which is a Kingair based in SQL, if that is the case I probably know the pilot. Glad he's out ok.

EDIT: Looks like the tailnumber ends with CB not CP, I dunno who that was.

I was Taxing for 28R when it happened. Looked like a critical engine failure just after V1. Saw the aircraft climb to about 50' agl and then bank and yaw hard left. Next thing I saw it burst into flames and the the pilot was running. Put a a big flame up and a huge black smoke cloud. Fire trucks arrived in about 5 minutes. News helicopters were off the ground in about 3. Hope the pilot is alright. It looked like a hell of ride. I didn't catch the tail number.

Something doesn't seem right here....

But does it surprise you at all? Also keep in mind it looks like it settled off field... meaning the trucks would have to get out of the fence first, well unless it crashed through the fence.

The news helicopters are based there as well... if the fire trucks left the station within 30 seconds it would take about 5 minutes to get that far away. The helos just took that amount of time to launch and were effectively onscene.

I can imagine the call to HWD tower for that...

"news chopper uno with info tango departing to midfield"
"rgr news chopper uno, hover from current position."

It actually settled just off the runway on the field. The helo's are based there and are always ready to be moving.

Also, from the abrupt and almost violent changes so quickly, it seemed like the auto-feathers didn't work. Maybe they weren't on, maybe they worked, but it didn't matter. Any other reason they wouldn't auto-feather? Air in the fuel? No fuel?

King Air down in CA

Just saw a news flash about a KA crash in CA. The pilot got out but the plane burned. Couldn't quite see what it was - looked like a 200.
Of course Fox said it was a jet

A witness said it sounded like the plane "lost power" and the pilot was "attempting to return to the airport."

Oops - now another one - a seaplane crash in Winter Haven, FL. What's going on today???
