773ER - Anyone in the NY area....

Hey there,

Anyone in the NY area plan on seeing the first arrival of the Air France 773ER at JFK?

I'll be going May 10th (its first commercial/revenue flight) to JFK to go see it.

Just wondering if anyone from JC would be going.

I'll take my camera, though it's not too good on the zoom (Canon A80). Hopefully I'll get a pic or two—all depends what runway they'll be using for arrivals that day.

Apparently, forecasts indicate winds from the north/northeast for May 10th, so they'll probably be using 4R for the arrivals.

I know there are a couple of NYers here, so I was just curious. It'd be cool to meet up or something.

most of the flights that come into rwy 13 or rwy 31 fly right over my house.. ill watch it from the comfort of my porch.. if infact thats where they are landing

i'll prob watch from my backyard with a good pair of binoculars, i have no desire to take the belt parkway unless i absolutely have to.

If any of you guys do go try and post the pics if you can, i'd love to see em!!

BELT PARKWAY SUCKS.always traffic and from where i live its the only way to get anywhere... btw ryan where do you train at kfrg?

The flight is Air France's 006 which arrives at around 3:15PM.

If in fact winds are different then predicted, then I certainly DO hope they use 13L and NOT 31R.

My god it's a hassle to go watch planes land on 31R. The route of the stupid bus that takes you to a convenient location is just so damn looooong.

But if it's 13L then everything's great. I'll probably go to the bus stop (I forget what bus is it) by the Medical Center. (where I got my medical)
It's right next to the 13L threshold.

If it's 4R, as expected, then I'll just take the A-train to Far Rockaway and walk about a mile up to the shore. Should get a nice view from there.

I'm gonna look for a photo so I can show you what bus stop I'm talking about. I think you get a great view of 13L arrivals from there.

Hey, How you Doin’? (emphasize NY accent!)

What’s crackin’ guys I’m here in Staten Island, I moved here ‘cause it’s just so quite, in comparison to other boroughs that is. I wish I could make it, but I’ll be out of town. I know this is a dumb question, but are all of you guys pilots? In about a month, I’ll be starting my PPL training at an FBO in Jersey called, Air Fleet Training Systems, Inc. It’s located in Teterboro, and Linden. I opted to fly out of Linden, seeing that there’s less air traffic there. Anyone heard of this FBO? Anyhow, it’d be cool if we all got together sometime.

Oh, yes, the belt does suck. By the way, are they finished with the construction by coney island?

I thought you hated the a train angel!! haha just kiddin bro

Here's an aerial view of the place. The faded white line is the bus route, just for reference.

I really hope they do land at 13L!

Hey Conan,

Nope, I'm not a pilot.

I'll be starting this summer at UND, as posted at the UND forums.

Being that we live pretty close, we may very well meet up eventually. I'm beginning to see the truth in what people say that the aviation world is a small one!

Tim,

I DO hate the A-Train!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having to wait for the "correct" A-Train is annoying. One that takes you in one direction, and the other that takes you to Far Rockaway.
Hate it!

What’s doin’, Rab?

You grew up on the Island? What’s with the move to Brooklyn? Coincidentally, I lived on E 23 between P and Quinten for 2 yrs. Great kills? you mean Great smells! lol!

I live 2 minutes from the Verrazano bridge. What part of Brooklyn are you from?

Hey Angel,

That’s awesome, the best of luck to you! I'm sure we'll meet sooner or later.

Hey Tim,

I used to live in Kew Gardens, right at the intersection of Metropolitan ave and Lefferts blvd. Talk about a flight attendant haven! Wowzers! Pilots and flight attendants (mostly flight attendants) live there because of the proximity of the airports, JFK and LGA. Most if not all that are based there fly out of both airports.

I live on Long Island. Unfortunatley, becuase I have finals on that day I will not be able to see the 777-300 come in. I always watch the daily 747 flight pass right over my school at about 3 every day. My high school is is Mineola, and is right on the approach path, not too far from 22 R/L.

Thanks Conan!

Brian, finals? Hey man, it's worth it! Just take'em the next day!
jk
I wish it were that easy!

Though I will tell you, I missed/cut/was absent from school for two days when I went to see the two last takeoffs of the Concorde. I wouldn't had missed it even if I would've had midterms that time!
