767 Type Rating Question

My understading is that the 767 aircraft offers a type rating that will give the pilots the ability to also fly the 757 with the appropriate differences training. Just curious, I am aware that the 757-200 and 300 as well as the 767-100, 200, and 300 all share the same cockpit configurations. However when looking at the 767-400 series the cockpit is dramatically different and more resembles that of the 777 cockpit. Does the cross utilized type rating for the 757/767 Boeing still apply to the 767-400 series. Perhaps the best explanaition could come from someone who works for Delta..(Doug?) who just so happens to fly the 757, 767, and the 777. Thanks for the information.....
 
The 767 type rating is valid for all series. However, the -400 is operated as a separate category at Delta and pays more than the 757 or the -300.
 
At CAL they (the -200 and the -400) are flown by the same pilot group, at the same pay rate. Where DL has three pilot groups CAL has one (757 and 767 at different pay rates.

Actually, that's not quite correct about Delta. The 75/76 is flown by the same group. It's just split between domestic and international. Wheras I fly both domestically for the same rate, Doug flies both internationally for the same rate, with a small override. The -400 is operated as a completely separate category, so I guess you were semantically correct, sort of.
 
Yeah I meant 756 domestic, 767 international and 767-400.

Dad will do all three types of flying in a month sometimes.

CAL has no "landing currency" requirement for the different types either.

CAL has 2 payrates within the base, one for 757 flying and one for 767 flying. Its gets blended based on fleet size for guarantee and 'soft time'.

How big of a difference is there between the training curriculum for 7ER and 756(dom) at DL? just some oceanic stuff for the 'ER'? Can an 'ER' pilot fly a 'domestic' trip?
 
Then my other question would be is my assumption correct that the differences training would have to be more intensive because the cockpit is a lot more glass compared to the older style 300 series. Do they require you to fly the 400 simulator?... Im assuming the flows would be different since panels might be different. How much difference in cockpit layout/flight training besides the obvious of A/C weight and perf. characteristics are there between the 777-200 and the 767-400? My assumption would be that they are probably completely identical.


It feels wierd that the FAA would allow this. I guess the best analogy would be a brand new 172SP that has the standard 6 pack of instruments and a few goodies like GPS and stuff and then i get checked out to fly a brand new 182SP that has the same instruments and im good to fly it and then they get a brand new 182SP with the Garmin G1000 pack and they say take it for a spin you are checked out on it already.
 
When you check out on the -400, first of all you complete 757/767 school and then you go to a differences program that is pretty extensive. It requires ground school and simulator training. Your analolgy of the C172 is pretty accurate.
 
The 767-400 and 777 are two completely different airplanes. Two separate type ratings, and the pilots are not qualified to fly both.

CAL does the course for the 757 and then differences for the 767-400. You are also required to fly the 764 at least once on your IOE and UOE

Basically none. Everyone first does the 75/76 course, with sims in both types. After the type ride, the intl guys then do a 2-3 day long range nav course. As far as ER guys flying domestic, they cannot pick up any domestic trips, however, there is some domestic time built in the trips they can bid. 1000 hours of domestic time is going over to the ATL ER group.:mad: That's 1000 hours less available for me to bid.

For what it's worth, there is persistant rumors of DL doing the glass conversion to make the 757/763/764 all the same so that they can combine all the catergories. From a company view, it increases the efficencies, however, from a pilot view, it requires less bodies to staff.
