727 question

Might be a really stupid question. But do they fly international routes. Especially that of UPS/Fedex? If not, is it because they are old? Are there any 727F's that fly international routes?

I don't know about UPS or FEDEX but some of the 121 Supplimentals do. I know Kalitta does All 50 States, Canada, Mexico, and the Central Pacific in their 72's

cool, did a research on a.net looking for 727s in europe, asia but couldn't find them. So I assumed they just didn't fly them internationally.

We have some that do, but somewhat limited. Part of that is noise issues, the other is range and payload. Most of our routes that used to have 727s have been guaged up to larger aircraft due to loads. We have some that head down to South America, Central America and Mexico, and a little bit of Canada still, but not a whole lot.

We don't operate them in Europe due to noise, loads and payload, and Asia not at all due to payload and range. Heck, even the A300/310s are max'd out, and we don't use those for ocean crossings at all due to range/payload.

Here is a dumb thought. By the time the 777F's and A380F's arrive they will be retired. Hmm wonder what will happen by then.

on the subject, why doesn't Fed Ex operate 747s? I know they have a big fleet already, but does anyone know of any plans to get the new 747-8F?

Just curious...

SharkFisher ...... for what it's worth 727s still fly trans-Tasman .... Sydney - Auckland every night on behalf of one of the freight companies.

Often flies over my place just before Sydney's 11pm curfew ... LOVE IT ... LOUDER BABY LOUDER!!!!

tell them they're not allowed to retire them all yet...i really wanna fly a 727 when i get to fedex.

*dreaming*

The 727 is really sweet to fly. It is a pilot's airplane, it's fast and built like a tank. The only downside is the avionics are very old school circa 1970.

Avionics aside. You can't beat powering up those JT8D's on takeoff or reverse thrust on landing roll and (litterally) shaking the whole airport and being heard miles away.

Beat that high ratio bypass engines!

:)

You definately can't beat the noise. Everybody knows something big just landed. I am not sure if the 727 actually burns the fuel or just squirts it out the back like those water rockets we all had as kids. 15,000+PPH burn on takeoff and nice smoke trails....JT8D-15's rock.

completely different

727

About the size of a 737

All three engines located on/in the tail

L1011

widebody, similar in size to the DC-10

engines 1 & 3 are wing mounted

#2 is mounted in the tail

What is the MTOW of 737? Just curious

The STC'd 727-200's have a MTOW of 190K+

I think they should teach English too.

When I ferried a plane to Roswell, NM I walked over to a UPS 727. It was pretty neat. Except the bathroom. Man. That was scary. Kinda looked like that bathroom from the caneman video. hehehe. Our bathrooms aren't that much better either. It often smells of a mixture of blue juice and urine/feces.
