5 year rule for those under 39

I was able to capitalize on this rule on 10/10/2010....just days before i turned 40. I'm about to be 44, do I need to get my 3rd class medical now, or can I wait until 10/10/2015....just before I turn 45? I already made a FAA ME appointment, but I wasn't totally sure.

Anytime in October 2015. The medical is good to the end of the month in which it was issued.

Is that the same for a class 1 which becomes a 2 then a 3 over the 5 year period?
