There is some comfort you can give in that situation. A simple human voice and the words 'everything is going to be OK'.

I was in a major car accident many years ago, and remember with utter clarity the panic I felt at realising I was seriously injured, and the relief that those same words gave me as I lost conciousness. Of course, I had the decency to wake up.

I agree. As I said in the earlier post, I ran over to see if I could provide any comfort - there was no way to do that due to how the plane had collapsed around him.
