3 hours of checkride prep for CFIO required?

Here so I don’t get fined
This may have been asked before, but is the 3 hours of checkride prep in the 60 days before a CFII actually required? I can't find any mention of it in the regs but everyone I know has always done it.

61.39 (a)(6) says that "training time" needs to be logged in preparation for the practical within the preceding 2 calander months. Since there are no actual time requirements for a CFI ride, it doesn't have to be 3 hours, it can be whatever the reccomending instructor deems appropriate.

I agree, and cannot find anywhere in the regs that you have to get 3 hours for a CFI within 2 calendar months. Yet my FAA examiner mentioned it in passing for my CFI initial and now I'm prepping for my CFII and it seems to be assumed you need three hours for that too. But I don't see it anywhere in the FARs.

61.39(a)(6) as mentioned above. Says nothing about an hour req. for CFI ratings. What is "assumed" is irrelevant.

The wording the the PTS was a bit vague in the past, it was changed last year to say you must have a 61.39 endorsement, 61.39 stipulates it must be logged training last 60 days, no minimum amount given.

Splitting hairs here, but the verbiage has changed from 60 days to 2 calendar months.
