2nd class medical with drug felonies?

I was wondering if anyone has encountered someone who has gotten a license and had drug felonies on their record. I have 2 and they are 16 years ago, is it possible that I will be denied? I know a deferral is a sure thing but planned on sending in a letter of completion from the rehab I attended, a letter from my cfi stating that Im not on drugs and am an airworthy person and also a letter from self stating my case. Any and all info helps, no negative or trolls please. Thank you.

It's probably a little less about the felonies than about drug dependence. The FAA looks at criminal records from a medical certificate standpoint as indicating a lack of impulse control. But when it comes to drug abuse, the burden is on you to prove lack of dependance, not on the FAA tomorive you are dependent.

There is, of course, the ATP "good moral character " requirement but, AFAIK, the medical issue is the major one.

Your question is better directed to a consulting AME or aviation medical specialist than to a lawyer. Generally speaking, you don't want a medical issue to become a legal issue.

Is there a way I can prove my abstinence? Maybe an FAA licensed drug test? I want to get all my ducks in a row before I apply. Last thing I want is to start off on the wrong foot, though I feel as if I'm doing so already. I guess just extreme preparedness is what I'm deperate for.

You need to find an AME that specializes in just this. It will probably not be cheap when it's done.

Just start calling AME offices and asking if they’ll help ya out. They would know better than most people on here

I would not do it randomly. I would look at the AME database at FAA-Designee Management System and filter for "HIMS" That's most likely to get you someone who really understands the system and how to approach the issue. And, of course, do not fill out an medical application. Make it clear you are coming in for a consult.

This is the best info right here. You may have to go through a HIMS type hoop.

Thank you all for commenting. Im extremely grateful for honest answers. It is hard to come upon some of the things you all have helped with without being in the aviation business. I also feel as everyone has given me the best leads possible and will be contacting my state HIMS rep soon. I will update this thread when I get a response. Again, thank you all.
