250nm commercial cross country

For the requirements for the 250nm commercial cross country, if an airport is 248.7nm from the starting aiport, would it satisfy the regulations to fly to the next closest airport in the opposite direction that is say 5nm away, making the total now 253.7nm, and then depart from here to meet the requirements?
The confusion I have is that the regulations say "from the original point of depature" Thanks!

There has to be at least on airport that's 250 miles away from your departure. The others can be along the way.
 
If you fly the 250 (in a straight line distance) from the last airport to the "original departure" airport, I think that would work.

Here's my ADVICE (and personal opinion) on the 250nm solo x-c. IF you can afford it, take a really long, and really challenging (but not dangerous) trip. I can't tell you how much I learned on mine to Martha's Vinyard (300nm from my original location).

I flew IFR, and was rerouted 3 times, to include a journey twenty miles off the coast of the Atlantic (the controller felt bad, and got me back in ASAP). I truly learned about flying "in the system" that day. I think it would be similar in a VFR environment, if you chose to do so. I also ran into all different kinds of weather.

On that day, I managed to fly in NY, PA, CT, RI, MA, and NH airspace. I know the 121/135 guys might laugh at my boasting about this, but for a small plane and a fairly low time (450 hour) pilot, it felt like an accomplishment at the time!

So long as he had plenty of night experience, enough to where he felt comfortable . . . the right planning, knowledge of route, navigation, and alternates with the aid of ATC along the way, sure, why not?

LOL...I departed at about 0400, and got about an hour at night on the trip out....on the way back, I left at about 1700 and got lots of night time!! For about half of that, I was on top of a completely overcast layer (on an IFR flight plan), munchin' on wheat thins and listening to NPR on the ADF!!!!

I think I have you beat MTSU, mine was SUS to ASN(Talledega, AL nothing but an Airport and a racetrack in the town) to BHM (where I had to stop for the night due to weather) to SPG. Stayed in St. Petersburg for the night where I had met my parents who were there for a convention. Then the next morning from SPG to CSG via an easterly deviation around weather which took me about ten miles east of St. Augustine, FL, Then back to SUS. 16.4 hours total 5.5 actual instrument, Three approaches, slow ground speeds most of the trip due to headwinds, 1595.20 miles straight line distance not counting distance added by diversions. That being said, I probably learned more flying that trip than any other cross country I have ever done, and aside from being very long, it was a lot of fun.
 
NPR? Man, all I can get is Radio Disney. Well, NPR would probably lull me to sleep on a long x/c at night anyway.

Well, finally did the 250nm cross country and it ended up being a 256nm trip on the 1st leg out to Chatam, MA on the Elbow of cape cod. I was considering going IFR for practice and experience, but the weather was too perfect this weekend. I've never flown in such unbelievable visibility! Definitely >75nm. From Chatam it was up to Hanscom (Bedford, MA). John Kerry's Jet was there. Not sure exactly of the type, but it looked like a 737 or something in that neighborhood.

it sucks after about the 3rd straight hour...it's either NPR, or a plethora of extremist "Come to Jesus..." stations!!!
