After a lifelong interest in aviation I have finally put myself in a position where I can afford to (and have the time to) look at getting my PPL.
Over 15 years ago, I received 2 DUI's in the period of less than a year...
I was obviously stupid and young (early 20's), and now completely obstain from drinking (don't smoke, have never used drugs).
The question is will I be able to get my Class 3 Medical so I can actually get my license? Obviously I need to report the DUI's on the medical form, so is this going to trigger a major nightmare else where? What's the standard FAA process once they get the form? Sounds like a substance abuse assessment is requested (which I have no problem getting)...
I have no interest in pursuing aviation as a career, just flying for personnel enjoyment or even for business reasons (some day).
Just trying to be prepared for when I start the process....
Thanks, Dave C
