I know there's another thread about the Colgan crash, but this news warrants a separate thread. I'm a fan of Chuck Mangione and two of his band members were on their way to perform in a concert last night (Feb 13th) in Buffalo. Chuck Mangione's band was to perform with the Buffalo Philharmonic last night at 8:00pm at Kleinhans Music Hall. The concert was cancelled due to the loss of the two band members.

RIP to two important and well-recognized jazz musicians, along with my fellow Dash 8 pilots. :(

I knew that there were two members from his band, but I didn't know Gerry Niewood was one of them. I learned to scat sing to Gerry's solos (off of the Albums) in the 70's. What a fluid and beautiful sound he'd make. This just deepens this tragedy.

Last night I saw a play about Patsy Cline "Always." Apparently she died in a plane crash too. Got me to thinking about how many great musicians we have lost in plane crashes over the years.

Very sad. This just makes it even more real, that sometimes the people we carry in the back aren't just strangers holding a seat number. :(

it was crazy because we live steps away from Kleinhans Music Hall in which they were to play. Even crazier was the fact that my bro-in-law regularly plays with Chuck and his band. I heard they were on the plane and called my b-i-l and he was shocked. he knows those guys and couldn't believe it. sad stuff.
