1200 hours baby!!!

Just got back from a night IFR X-C from Austin-- and I hit 1200 hours doin it! IT'S RESUME TIME BABY!!! I figure a few years of flyin' cargo and I'll have the Turbine Total to apply for the big guys. But more importantly, it's spells the beginning of the end of having to say "Watch your altitude, more right rudder, Watch your altitude, more right rudder,Watch your altitude, more right rudder,Watch your altitude, more right rudder... ad nauseam.

And a decent paycheck wouldn't be bad either!

Congrats Jim! Let me know when the CFI job opens /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I will be looking for a CFI job soon, and for 1000 hours be saying "More right rudder...stop trying to kill me... more right rudder...."

Hahaha--well best of luck to you man! Check out Mountain Air Cargo (F-27, C-208, and Shorts) out of North Carolina. I've heard excellent things about this company. Also you might want to try Airnet out of Columbus, OH! Best of luck to you with your job search. I work at an FBO in Toledo, OH... if you're looking for a 121 carrier, you might consider www.commutair.com I don't know if they are hiring, but I know they fly the Beech 1900D, 900 single, 100 mutli, and pretty attractive female pilots! In any event, keep me posted!

Chris

Thanks for all the great info Chris, I'm based in Dallas now- but I'll let you know when my spot opens up all the same!

Freight? Not interested in the regionals? You could get on with a number of companies with your times.

Outstanding, Capt! I'm at the other end of the spectrum... the beginning of the beginning of "Watch your altitude, more right rudder, Watch your altitude, more right rudder,Watch your altitude, more right rudder,Watch your altitude, more right rudder..." ad nauseam.... and I feel GREAT too!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Congrats and good luck with the job hunting!

Thanks R2F!!! Can't wait to see you at 1200- I'll be happy to drop resumes if I can help.

Aloft: Yeah, I thought about Eagle, Coex, and the like, but there's some things I'm not to excited about with the regionals. I'll lay 'em out and maybe get some discussion going:

Number 1: My goal is the majors. I'm 28. Upgrade time at the regionals is anywhere from 5 to 7 years. I need 1000 hours minimum of Turbine PIC to qual for the majors, so I see right seat time as a barrier to my goal. 135 upgrade times are anywhere from 9 mos. to 2 years.

Number 2: Starting pay is not much better than flight instructing, and still in the poverty level. I've spent a lot of time and money getting the experience I have, and I think its worth more than 19K a year. Cargo joints start you anywhere from 25 to 35, which is more acceptable as intro pay. With the quicker upgrate times, this translates to less ramen noodles!
Also, someone said once that if Eagle anounced tomorrow that they would hire any pilot with a Commercial liscense, but at no pay or benefits, there would still be a line of people across D/FW. Eagle knows this, and thats why the starting pay is so poor for new hires. I personally think that accepting such a low pay weakens the position of the pilots, and limits what kind of future they will ultimately have. I'm doing my little part to improve the pilots lot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Hey, I'm not even in a union!!

Opposing/alternate veiwpoints are welcome and solicited!!!

Sweet! Thanks!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Look for that to happen by the end of next year....or beginning of 2006 at the latest.

CapnJim,

I don't think you could even oppose what you just said, that's one of the things with this industry is that people are willing to fly for free just becuase it's more of a hobby than a job! The only airline that I know of with realatively quick upgrade times to Capt. is CommutAir. I talk to many of their pilots, and they all look to get the turbine PIC in the B-1900D, then move on to the majors. Starting pay on that is low, but it is 121 turbine time.

Flight instructor pay is going to kill me, especially when the government comes to collect their money back for some of my student loans 6 months after I graduate. That's not going to be too exciting to pay off that debt! Other than that, good luck with your job search. I wish you all the best!

Chris

Chris-
I did look at the CommutAir website, and it looks great! One thing puzzles me though- thier minimums are very low, but they are not accepting resumes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm guessing what's called for is a walk-in, but I don't know anyone who flies for them. I suppose I could just send it in anyway...

I'm hearing you on the loan repayment thing. I'm on my last month of forebearance (they delay payment, but let the juice run on the principal) and will have to start shelling out soon. Paying bills is tough enough as is, and I'm going to have to work a lot harder if I'm to keep pace at all.

The mantra for the month is : need a job...need a job...need a job...need a job...need a job...need a job...need a job...need a job...

I think that you are smart to skip the regionals. If your looking for work and want to stay in dallas check out Ameriflight.Upgrades to turbine aircarft is around 6 months. Also there is Cherry air and they fly Lears.Good luck on your future.

Ameriflight baby!!! Yeah, just published my app with them. Fingers crossed on that one. Cherry air... hmmmm... I suppose they would be ok, but I've heard they're nickname is Scary Air- I'd have to make sure the equipment is halfway decent.

Good call. Ameriflight is a pretty good outfit. Tubine PIC baby, that's what counts. Good luck man! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Take a look at Mesa. Those with ATP mins are upgrading almost immediately on the Dash. JCer raysalmon was awarded captain before he even left newhire training.

Mesa gets a bum rap from people in the industry, but it's not entirely deserved. Bogberto is a CRJ capt there, he can answer your questions on what it's *really* like working there.

Man, if that's the truth, then I would definitely recommend it. I couldn't imagine someone with ATP mins not going for this if this is really happening. This is kind of what the regionals were all about and why they used to be a great stepping stone. It's these 5-10 year upgrades at ludacris pay that have, in recent years, led me to my negative opinions of the regional carriers.

Go for it people!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Your upgrade estimation is valid at Maybe eagle, and Possibly close to COEX, but just about everywhere else your way off. There are some companies that have 1.5/2 year upgrades into RJs. But if ya wanna go fly a 20 year old lear, go for it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You do realize that you have an enormous chip on your shoulder, right? You comments are usually pretty condescending and you often sound like an idiot. Like right now.

Alright, I asked for dissenting opinions, so I'll call you out-- gimmie some valid info on regionals that have the upgrade times you say, and I won't give you an argument! But remember, I want VALID info. Verifiable, capice? If you can't cough up, then stuff it.

ExpressJet upgrade running around 4 years right now. Could change for better or worse depending on many factors. It's too bad pay isn't higher, because this really isn't a "stepping stone" like many think... to be honest, this airline is run better than many "major airlines" out there right now.

Smaller planes, smaller paycheck I guess. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
