117 deadhead question

TowJoe

You really Schruted that one
Can you be scheduled to deadhead only (not technically a FDP then) on day 7 without 30 hours of rest? Then receive your 30 hours prior to flying.

I am not an expert but... A deadhead is duty, but it's not flight duty (usually) and doesn't affect your flight duty period unless a flight follows the deadhead, so the 117 limits don't really apply except in a lookback scenario. If you receive 30 hours prior to flying and reset your lookback on duty, it ought to be OK.

"§ 117.25 Rest period. (a) No certificate holder may assign and no flightcrew member may accept assignment to any reserve or duty with the certificate holder during any required rest period. (b) Before beginning any reserve or flight duty period a flightcrew member must be given at least 30 consecutive hours free from all duty in any 168 consecutive hour period"

Just curious about the 117 interpretation, I haven't had this happen before.

I am; this is correct.

As long as you receive the appropriate rest prior to commencing an FDP, the FAA is indifferent to what else happens.
