$100 hamburgers and time building

Hey guys, I had a couple questions for you.

One, does anybody have any suggestions for good $100 hamburgers to be had in SoCal? I'm time building right now and looking for places to take people other than the typical trip that people always ask for to Catalina.

Also, is anybody looking to build some time and split costs in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area? Looking to get to those commercial mins for as cheap as possible.

Thanks! :)

Hey,

San Luis Obispo has a nice place to grab some food. Spirit of San Luis is the name of the place.

Also Gillespie Field had a reasonable place near the base of the tower.

Why limit yourself to SoCal? Time building is time building, go on a trip. 20 hours of time will get you halfway across the country and back in a 172. Come to Colorado, I will buy your burger. You will want the XC time down the way. Stop by vegas and the grand canyon on your way.

Great advice. I'll never forget that flight from SoCal to Durango. Stopped at KGCN on the way.

Okay, this is really a stupid question, but do airports actually sell $100 hamburgers or is this just an exaggeration of the cost of airport food?

I would like to second the OP's question...except I am interested in 100$ hamburgers in the Missouri/Kansas/Olahoma/Nebraska area.

Anyone:dunno:

K15 is a great place to visit. Lake of the ozarks, dine on the water at almost any resturant in the summer. Friendly staff at the airport. Watch those power lines on final.

Great advice. I think I just might do that, actually...sounds like an epic journey.

Thanks. :D:D:D

Catalina Island. They have some good buffalo burgers out there. Be cautious of the squirelly winds. My .02, Beautiful flight on a nice day.

I have flown entire country several times and the one flight that stands out against all the others was my trip to Mount Rushmore right after my private checkride. Only 6 hours on the hobbs but I will take the memory to my grave.

If you decide to come to the grand canyon area or Colorado then PM me, I will give you some nice tips to make the journey even better.

Depending on how much time you need to build then branch out further, 40 hours will put you in times square and back with several destinations along the way. The sky is no longer the limit.

Of course the phrase was coined before aircraft rental fees were half what they are today. Perhaps a $200 hamburger would be more realistic.

If you work your way up here to JNU I'll buy you a Beer and a Hamburger! Have fun out there, time building from Wet Ink commercial to 500TT was some of the most fun I ever had.

If you like the Wine Country area, head up to Santa Rosa (KSTS). It's a beautiful airport to fly into and had a great restaurant on field, next to the small terminal and Sonoma Jet Center.

It's called Sky Lounge, the food is really good and not expensive. When I flew in there with Horizon, we could call in and order food, they'd have it ready for you when you landed.

Information is dated so check on it's currency. My list would include:

Camarillo - CAF hangar there and I believe there's a restaurant on the field.

Chino - Planes of Fame and a restaurant within walking distance

Santa Barbara - Elephant Bar on the field by Santa Barbara Aviation

Santa Maria - great mexican restaurant in the terminal

Santa Ynez - the little FBO used to have a loaner car for a ride into Solvang.

Columbia - Old western town within walking distance

...and someone help me out here, the little strip alongside I-5 with a hotel/rest stop associated.
