If you use fltplan.com to file you'll usually get an expected clearance so it will give you a heads up if there are any expected changes. I will normally print out the flight plan and insert it in the GPS and if any changes occur I can amend it before departure.

Do some networking and find someone flying part 91 trips in a multi who is willing to take you along, as long as they don't mind letting you sole manip when flying. Unless they are a MEI in which case it doesn't matter.

I was curious about this to because I'll be taking the comm written this summer. I heard that the FAA was trying to prevent people from memorizing all the questions and not actually learning how to work out all the questions involving calculations.
