    Question on CFI Initial Practical

I passed! Very glad to have that over and to get that extremly heavy weight off my back. It still hasn't quite sunk in yet that I'm a CFI, but I'm ready to jump right in and get started with some students. Fortunately, a school in my area already told me they will use me part time, so I look...

    Question on CFI Initial Practical

Test is tomorrow, got assigned to a DPE in upstate SC. I've tried to not worry about it since I feel like I'm prepared, but I hope I don't have a bad day or do anything stupid that gets me busted. Everyone wish me luck, and hopefully I'll have some good news and a write up tomorrow evening...

    Question on CFI Initial Practical

Ok, thanks. That's about what I figured, but I was just curious as to what some others have experienced. I believe I will do better if they have me present real life situations and apply the FOI to that. I hope I don't get one who just wants me to regurgitate info.

    Question on CFI Initial Practical

I have a question for those who have been through the CFI initial practical in regards to FOI. When the examiner asked to teach any particular section, did they allow you to use a rough outline or lesson plan? I completed an outline for the entire Flight Instructor's Handbook, but I'm...

    CEEME2

Off topic, but one thing that confuses me is when they assign an arrival, and then tell you to go direct to a random fix on the arrival, without telling you which transition that the fix is on. You have to then pull up the chart and find the fix and the appropriate transition for the FMS...

JetBlue pilots make safe landing after laser blinding

We had a local news chopper get hit by someone stuck in traffic on I-85. The chopper had a night vision cam and they tracked the guy up the road. The highway patrol was notified and got the guy pulled over about 3 miles up the road. Last I heard, he was in custody of the feds.

And, be sure there isn't a valley before the runway so you don't end up like the Polish airforce one!

Mitsu MU-2 Down in Tulsa - Sen. Inhofe's Son Aboard?

http://mu-2aircraft.com/upload/news/NsImgPdf_82.pdf This article talks about amendments to procedures on engine failures at takeoff on the MU-2, but still an interesting read. It sounds like things can get pretty hairy if you are not on the ball.

Looking for Corporate entry level Jet Job

The insurance companies are getting very finicky about "required" jet time before they approve you on the policy. I've seen experienced airline pilots (flying turboprops) get turned down to fly a citation just because they don't have jet time. Stupid in my opinion, but it is what it is. I'll...

    Dihedral and Lateral Stability

Can someone please explain why when a wing drops that it gives that wing a higher angle of attack than the raised wing? The FAA does a horrible job of explaining this, other than just to tell you that this is what happens. I just don't understand it. Thanks.

The Most Embarrassing Private Jet Flight of All times

A buddy of mine was flying a guy in a light twin one day when the guy notified him of the impending issue with his gastrointestinal tract. They were over the mountains and there was no place to land. The only thing he could use was the plastic luggage crates in the back. So this is what he...

    Effective Relative Airflow

I just wanted to make sure I understand this in reference to induced drag, and the effect it has on tilting the lift vector rearward. Is it the angle of downwash in relation to relative airflow that determines the angle in which the lift vector shifts rearward? In a diagram I looked at, it...

    Checking for proper takeoff power

Thanks for the info everyone. I just got a little on edge the other day when it felt like I wasn't getting up to speed as quick as usual. It was 90 degrees, so I'm sure that density altitude had a lot to do with it. But it was the first time I actually looked at the tach while on roll, and I...

    Checking for proper takeoff power

What is the best way to tell if the engine is not producing normal power on the takeoff roll in a piston powered airplane? The RPM indications are always going to vary depending on the density altitude, correct?

    Looking in Dallas Now

Unfortunately, that would not pay our bills. Once we get the car paid off and some of the student loans taken care of, things will be much more manageable. I would like to do the CFI thing on the side, to supplement my income and build some time. I'm starting to come to the realization that I...

    Looking in Dallas Now

I am working on getting it done in the next few weeks. So yes, I will have it. There is just no way I can pay the bills as a CFI, with a family to support. I plan on doing it as a supplemental income if there is a school willing to use me part time.

That was one I was looking at. Barr Air Patrol was advertising a spot, but they want 1500 total and 1000 PIC. I thought those were low time entry jobs, but evidentally not in that case. Got to love being in the under 1500 club!

    Looking in Dallas Now

As some of you might have read before, we were looking to relocate to Oklahoma. Dallas is a better option at this point because of family that I have in that area that could help us stay on our feet. Can anyone help me on any positions in that area? This is a break down of my times: Total...

    Interesting ASRS report

I was just skimming through some asrs reports and came across this one. I was curious, is this the equivalent of "ratting" someone out in the airline industry? How do you handle flying with a captain that makes decisions like this? It was bad luck for that captain that an off duty check...

Ok, this is funny! Drunk pax fights a pilot in the terminal.

A few things I've learned being a police officer: You don't argue with someone who is drunk or on drugs. Don't let your pride get in the way of sound judgment. They aren't mad at you personally a majority of the time, they are mad at the badge (or pilot's uniform in this case). I've had...

    Clogged Ear

Dr. Forred, I made the mistake of taking a trip yesterday with my sinuses being clogged. Descending through the mid 20's I had terrible pain in my left ear and then it completely clogged to the point that I was literally deaf in that ear. I had pain the whole evening and still couldn't hear...
