F-15E shot down over Iran

So they aren’t completely and utterly destroyed. For a country that has been “totally decimated” back to the Stone Age they seem pretty capable of destroying US assets.
I heard Iran started launching fighter aircraft to search for the downed crew, of course the picture they showed was of a 50+ year old two seat F-5 (it wasn't a T-38, you can tell by the tip tanks and off-road tires) so I'm not sure if that info is accurate. If Iran did send up F-5s to go head to head with the 4th and 5th gen fighters those pilots either have balls of platinum or they were coerced to jump into the fight.

[moderator note: political comment redacted] He said the U.S. had complete air superiority. This certainly isn't like the other conflicts in that part of the world. Iran is a country with actual strategic capabilities.

Strat SAM systems, strat AAA sites and airfields can be taken out of action terminally. It’s the tactical SAM systems, MANPADs, and mobile AAA pieces, that will always be a problem that can’t fully be eradicated, as they can be everywhere, and hence, need to be taken into account tactics-wise

If forced to guess, I would think the 60 was involved in SAR for one or both of the jets.

No confirmation on any -60, yet. The A-10, as I’m hearing it, took some heavy damage during a mission. Retrograded to friendly territory and pilot had to eject.

Wow, for being the best in the world, and having already won decisively, we are sure losing a bunch of aircraft. This marks what, 4 F-15s downed? An A-10, a couple of helos, and a dozen KC-135s?

How embarrassing...

Iran isn’t Afghanistan. The mobile threats are present, and are everywhere. While they don’t have the ability to reach out and touch you such that the strat systems do, they are very lethal if you operate inside their WEZ, which easily happens.

We quickly defeated Iraq in DS, but lost a lot of aircraft downed by legacy systems, even after we’d had them mostly beaten down. Welcome to operating in a contested environment.
