I feel like falling iguanas are scarier but exploding trees sound scary AF also.

I was winter camping in Vermont one winter and it went from 40 degrees to -15 in about 4 hours. Craziest things I've ever seen. We'd set up camp in a grove of oak trees and with the sap flash freezing there were several of them that exploded in the middle of the night. Sounded like bombs going off. Fortunately we were far enough away that the wood shrapnel didn't hit our tents, but it was all over the place in the morning.

Sounds good. I am the biggest ERCOT/Gridd skeptic in Texas but I really have a hunch it will be okay. If the freezing rain is heavy that is where the problems come in - particularly Austin and SA - because the trees never really lose their leaves and the utilities are not the best about trimming. I predict lots of power loss but it'll be snapped trees and not a grid issue. Act of God vs Act of corrupt legislature.
After last summers regular power outages for small rain squalls that rolled thru central Texas. I have no faith that Texas’ independent power grid will stay running. Ended up buying one of those newfangled gizmo “solar generators”

I’ve got firewood stockpiled. if the power goes out, The 10kw solar generator will keep internet TV running and cellphones charged.

I have a tiny 2kw Honda gas generator to recharge the 10kw battery when there’s no sun to layout 6 400w solar panels.

During the summer the solar generator was able to run the fridge freezer, internet and a U-split window A/C for 3 days. So should be able to run at few days longer because I won’t be needing to run the window A/C unit.

The set up is a lot quieter than running a larger gas or propane generator 24/7 to keep power running. I only need to run the Honda generator for 5 hours to recharge the battery for several days worth more power.

Hopefully should be able to last the week or two will take Oncor to reconnect all the downed lines…
