Uh...not likely. Who knows.....the airlines are weird that way. Hire big....put guys in class, the furlough them once they hit the line.

The industry generally lags the economic swing.

Eventually the economy will upswing, give it a few months and there'll be recalls and hiring, right up until it switches towards a town turn, give it a few months and then hiring ceases and/or furloughs.

Or they will be short in the winter and have to JM everybody.

Glad someone can find some happiness in the oil situation that is putting a couple thousand aviation professionals out on the street.

What I honestly am wondering is shouldn't HR or managment be able to come up with an equation or number that says: "Ok if this happens, at this price we should be able to hire enough crew so that if this happens we wouldnt be short or over staffed."?

Just find something else to do.

The aviation industry in this country is changing for the long term. That'll most likely mean EXTREMELY few jobs out there for those of us who thought we would do this for the long term.

Find two other passions that you enjoy, and follow those. . .then for the third thing to keep you occupied - fly for a living.

The stock market is a leading indicator for the economy. And it tends to bottom out about six months to a year before the economy picks up.

It's highly unlikely we've seen the end of the bear market. We haven't seen the capitulation where people just give up and sell off their stocks.

Until that happens, we haven't seen the bottom of the stock market.

And if we won't see the economy pick up for months after that happens, we're not going to see the economy pick up for a while.

Cyclical companies like airlines are not going to be hiring until the recovery is well under way.
