Cape Air wins the EAS bid for RKD

Great news for them. If I still lived in ME, I'd consider throwing an app in over there. A real class act from what I have heard.

Funny on so many levels for me. There are two passengers in particular that I'd love to see their reactions.

BHB got a bunch of news about upgrading the airport finally. Airport manager must have got a kick in the butt to get moving. I'd expect certification for the SAAB before too long.

They didn't get the 'new" money. Airport manager in AUG was all happy about Baldochi sayin get the saab... But no matter how many tims i call for it, airn't nobody showin me the money.

BHB and RKD require a fire rescue boat for the SAAB. No way around it. What really goats me, is that flying 2x as many flights to cover the pax is ok... but just adding less than 2x the seats is not.

You are more likely to smoke a 402 into the ocean than a saab. Nothing against the 402, but more flights means more chances for something to go wrong. The saab is a safer airplane. Just another example of our Gov't dropping the ball.

I've read this twice i still don't understand what you are saying. I think it had something to do with me talking about BHB getting the SAAB. Don't give a crap about aug or rkd nor was I talking about them.

Anyway. http://bangornews.com/news/t/hancock.aspx?articleid=165956&zoneid=178

Thats the article. Specifically two things entertained me. One: "The county plans to apply for a two-year waiver of the FAA standard." so they don't need the money right away.

Two "
It’s always easier to stop something than it is to get the wheels turning last minute" said the airport manager who has obviously never dealt with Colgan. Everything at cjc is last minute. I wouldn't be surprised if they got the waiver and years later never got anything done.

Side note, this part is just hilarious. "
Operation costs would increase to $295,675 for the first year, but Colgan has agreed to cover that cost" said the airport manager. Wonder where they are getting that money from. :banghead:

Haha.. the third line from bottom,
"Attempts to reach a spokesman from Colgan Air were unsuccessful."

why does that sound normal.

The newer planes? heh... the 340B is 3 years older than the 1900D. The 340 already comes as a 30 seater. There is no need to move a bulkhead to prevent seats from being reinstalled. They can already put more seats in the 340, and i have yet to see a bulkhead installed to prevent that.

I have a feeling you will see Cape Air in more ME airports than RKD.

and here you see where most of the UAL system EAS contracts were re-awarded. BHB and AUG are still on the table for Maine.
http://airlineinfo.com/ost10/ost061008.html#Anchor-Essential-47857 . The Cape Air bids as the rumor goes, were nearly 1/2 the Colgan cost... Nowhere have i seen any proposal that includes Colgan paying for anything.
http://airlineinfo.com/ostpdf69/676.pdf -PQI stuff... may be old... i do forget, unless there was change.. the 90 day notice there ends this month.

Cape air also Bid the EAS in AUG, RKD in 2001. At that time the colgan subsidy was over 2.3 million a year. In 2004, AUG,RKD, and BHB together were over 3 million.

The same airport manager would not sand the runways to help the pax get in or out in winter... because he would then have to buy more sand. I won't miss that place

Colgan has been awarded a new two year contract to continue serving PQI. http://redorbit.com/news/business/1...ue_service_to_presque_isle_airport/index.html
