PHX Pilots Needing A Medical

Just set an appointment with Dr. Forred and I'll say that it literally took me 23 seconds to set an appointment for a class one medical.

I'd probably say at least 12 seconds of that was because "The Family Guy" is on television and I wasn't paying close attention.

Agree with the sentiment. Couple that with candy in the office and I'm won over.

Maybe I'm an easy sell, or maybe Dr. Forred might just be my hero (it also helps that his name when pronounced very quickly sounds like mine, which is a major plus)

Not only is it fast to get an appointment, I bet your actual examination will take less than 23 minutes. I was in and out super quick last year. Top notch operation.

Heck I come down from Salt Lake to see the good doctor, it's an easy 50 minute flight to Phoenix and a cheap cab ride to his office to have the piece of mind of going to an AME that actually knows what he's doing.

:yeahthat: After having some medical issues last winter I probably would have been sitting for a couple of months waiting for a deferred decision from the FAA if it was not for Dr. Forred. He was the one to tell me exactly what documentation will I need for the medical, so I was able to show up prepared. And what seemed problematic and hard for me, he made just a slam dunk. :rawk: Absolutely worth the trip from Seattle.

This may be too much of a pilot question. . . but. . . what does he charge?

It is very fair and reasonable, exactly in the ballpark of every other AME I have ever been too. Except it is faster, more efficient, more informative, and an overall better experience.

I will never forget the very first medical I got, some 40 years ago. Went into the doctors office, he did all the standard stuff then said he needed to check my hearing. He leaves the room, I assume he's going to wheel in some machine....the next thing I know I hear this voice from the other side of the door..."can you hear me?" Me, being a 17 year old smart ass, I said "No."

That was good enough for him. Walked out, medical in hand. I've always wondered about AME's since then...

LOL, that's great :)

Where is he in Phoenix? Phone number if you have it. I have to get a Class I quick (interview in a few weeks)... Thanks

On the JC home page there is a link to his website. You can schedule your appointment online. Just look for My Flight Surgeon

If I remember right, he is on 5th street, just off the 10.

I was in your situation (long ago) and in need of a 1st class ASAP. I was offered an interview that took place 5 days later. I called SEVERAL AME's who need two weeks out to schedule one. Randomly, I called Dr. Forred THE DAY OF and got right in (and out) after a thorough exam. I was delighted to find out later that he donates his time to this websight to help monkeys like me. I cannot say enough about the practice!
