XJT Rejects SKW's Takeover Bid

here from a guy that sees only black and white in a world filled with gray

I see plenty of gray. You should talk to a bunch of the DTW pilots that I represented. Many of them think of me as someone who's too wishy-washy and sees too much gray. Damned if you, damned if you don't.....

for some reason continues to call Flight Attendants "stews"

I call myself a copilot also. Does that too offend your delicate sensibilities? I also say cockpit and still wear my uniform hat. I'm old school. Live with it.

and attempts to insinuate that I have no backbone.

I've insinuated no such thing. I can't comment on your either having a backbone or not having one, as you refuse to answer the question for some unstated reason. Even a PM would do. Why not answer the question?

This only proves the accuracy of my earlier offensive post. Think! You think that saying I need to grow a pair isn't the equivalent? Why don't I answer your question? Because I don't trust you. You have no sense of balance. I apologized to Kristie for acting up in her living room, but I've called people for their "old school" sexist, and other forms of divisive ways in actual living rooms before. In this living room, however, I don't have to leave, I can just make offensive people disappear. You'll be the first. Nice job of being a diplomat for ALPA.

I have many good friends at SkyWest that I will never agree with over their anti-union banter. Its sad that SkyWest pilots are ok with just hanging onto the coat tails of other unionized pilots that have payed and fought hard for the rights that their management now gives them to keep up with industry standards. And just to add insult to injury the fact that they are ok with screwing over a bunch of xjet guys who have worked for one of the best contracts in the regional industry. Its gotten to the point where I just agree to disagree with them...

agreed . . .people should show a little humility.

Generalizations mon amie. The coattails argument is tiring - really, I certainly don't take it personal but you should know there are lots of 'middle of the road' labor/union supporters here. I do not get into pissing contests here, but each company throughout the industry has better points than others. So I won't get into a comparison battle. I will simply say, there is a growing number of those who wish be unionized to some extent to allow us join the bigger labor movement in a positive way.

And who ever said anyone is OK with 'screwing' XJT guys? Haven't heard that from a single soul. I for one am pulling for all parties involved.

You think that saying I need to grow a pair isn't the equivalent?

I just did a quick review of my posts, and I can't find anywhere where I said that you specifically need to grow a pair. I made a comment about many Skywest pilots in general, not you specifically. In general, I noticed a lot of Skywest pilots that were scared to death of standing up for what they supposedly believe in. I don't know whether you're one of them or not.

Why don't I answer your question? Because I don't trust you.

Many members of this board that you do trust know me well and trust me. You should talk to them. Your concerns about me are unfounded.

but I've called people for their "old school" sexist, and other forms of divisive ways in actual living rooms before.

So you're calling me a sexist now? Just want to be clear before I respond.

Who says being a captain is "getting there"? Seriously.

Honestly, do you guys ever read posts before you go nuts? The point was that if your goal is an AIRLINE CAREER, the ultimate goal is to be a MAJOR AIRLINE CAPTAIN. All your other examples are red herrings because the initial assumption is that we're talking about an AIRLINE CAREER.

The guys couldn't get over the fact that they were captains and were realistically, probably a CRM hazard to be on the flight deck.

This is just a gratuitous insult.

Guess what. When I am flying my 182 around..

Again, your GA hobby has NOTHING to do with an AIRLINE CAREER.

Some others could be "there" in the left seat of a G-V, the right seat of a 76, and hell getting their private because that's all they want out of aviation.

Again, examples that have ZERO to do with an AIRLINE CAREER.

The last thing we need is for every kid out there reading these forums to think they have failed unless they are a captain at a Major airline.

Not the point. When you start dreaming, planning and finally pursuing an AIRLINE CAREER, your goal is to be a major airline Captain. Not a night check hauler, not a regional pilot, not even a FedEx or UPS pilot. Kids want to fly that 777 from the left seat.

And by the way, there are test pilots out there that look at major airline captains as bus drivers

And that's why an inordinate number of Boeing Flight Test guys end up at the airlines. :banghead:

but just to clarify...this particular "forum" is for the airline biz separate from all others whereas the "board" itself is for everyone, not *just* APs.

And that's why this discussion is relevent on this forum.

I think when everyone starts their careers towards "airline pilot" they see the end as a captain at a major airline...as they start moving towards that point, things change and each person's "there" becomes a bit of a different trek.

Absolutely! Some guys never play Varsity sports in High School. However, everyone who went out for the team wanted to. Lots never make it past the first cut, much less on to the JV team.

Something i've had to learn in the past year, cuz i used to think that everyone's end all be all *should* be captain at a major....but it's not.....but i understand where you're coming from.

Thank you. Its a statement of fact, not an attempt to denigrate anyone who's goal is somewhere else or is unable to get there because of bad timing or industy problems.

I too kinda think now, that you're really never *there*...you're always learning something new, experiencing new things etc....except maybe once you reach retirement... then you can actually say "you've done it all" when it comes to career goals. :D

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner. And lookit here, its the young lady who doesn't have a pilot ego to get in the way of rational thought.

What a surprise.

Dude, I'm pretty sure he said he blocked you so it dosn't do you much good to reply to him directly.

How can you say his concerns are unfounded? What have you done to earn his trust? Why should it be his responsibility to poll the forum to determine thier opinion of your integrity just so that you can have the privelage of knowing how he voted?

Being middle of the road is fine with me, its the guys and gals over there that just say, "we don't need one, it won't help us here and I don't want to pay dues" that get under my skin. I don't think their opinions on the subject makes them any less of a person and a couple of my closest friends live with this type of mindset. So be it, agreed to disagree... And sorry if I generalized all SKW pilots into that, I regret it came across like that. :panic:And I think everyone is pulling for all parties here and I feel that it wouldn't be good in the long run for the XJT guys. Especially if they give up their contract that they worked so hard to get.

Riding the coattails? Are you serious? Whenever our company gets around to giving us stock options and bonuses, we'll talk about coattails. Maybe just terrible wording on your part, but they've led the way in how to treat their pilot group for a while. Are they riding the coattails of our "mighty" Teamsters union??

To add an example, I have a really close friend that is a regional FO on the BRO over there and when i ask her about getting a union on property she is so against it and has no idea why she doesn't think they need one. She is so full of Kool-Aid that nothing bad will ever happen that she is turning red. If someone thought that they didn't need a union over there fine, but at least provide a valid argument as to why they don't think it will be good for them. I am getting sick of the "our management would never do anything bad" argument. SkyWest has a bunch of great things going for them, the FA i saw the other week in Little Rock being one of them, but I really feel if they had some form of a union they would be the best place going.

Our union has alot of room for improvement, they would have issues to be riding the coattails of the Teamsters, but at least we have a form of legal protection.

They also say that you are a nice guy in person

And they would be correct, if I do say so myself. :) But seriously, don't you think you might be getting the wrong impression if a bunch of guys that you know that know me in the "real world" can attest to me not being the ####### that you think I am? The interweb is a poor communications medium. I thought Jtrain was an arrogant jerk based on our debates here, but that turned out to be a really inaccurate assessment.

. . . I don't blame him for keeping specifics on the DL when it's a public forum. It's not neccessarily that he is ashamed of anything... he might just not want the entire world to be able to find out with a web search.
This is exactly the attitude that screwed us on the ALPA drive last year. . . .Some people need to grow a pair. Colgan/Pinnacle is far more anti-union than Skywest, but Seggy didn't curl up in the corner and fear for his job during the union drive. He was out in the open with ALPA lanyard on and telling everyone about unions and why they should vote for ALPA. We need more people like Seggy and less people that are scared of their own shadow.
this is pretty on point as a direct attack on my fortitude.

Notice that your name is never mentioned in that post. I don't know whether you fit that post or not, because you won't tell me why you won't answer the question. If you won't answer the question because you're scared and won't stand up for yourself, then you obviously fit what that post is talking about. If that's not the reason that you won't answer the question, then it doesn't apply to you.
