THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Skybus Airlines, a Columbus carrier that excited central Ohio travelers with its $10 fares, is calling it quits.
The news came quickly today, with the airline announcing at 9:30 p.m. that it will no longer be in business Saturday.
After today, all flights are canceled.
Those holding tickets for future flights are advised to contact their credit card companies about obtaining refunds.
Skybus is not providing alternate transportation. Those who purchased trip insurance within the last month should make any claims through the Skybus insurance provider, AIG TravelGuard. The policy that went into effect in early March covers airline-caused cancellations; the previous policy did not.
As of today, Skybus was making 80 daily flights to 15 cities around the U.S. It made its first flight from its home base at Port Columbus on May 22 of last year and opened a second base in Greensboro, N.C. in January.
Skybus has approximately 450 employees. Of those, 350 are based in Columbus, with the remainder in Greensboro.

I know you wouldn't joke about such a serious matter, I am just shocked, but on the other hand, I'm not. Only a matter of time, and thank God that time is here!

HAHA! Not even two hours ago I was having a conversation with a G-IV crew down in the hotel restaurant about Skybus(t) after one of them mentioned having flown on them in the past few weeks.

How ironic.

I totally predicted Skybus would be next.

Then again, it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out....... and I certainly wasn't alone in my guess!

Looks like Virgina America just increased their fleet. If only they could be next.

Unfortunately, I think it will be a while before VA suffers the same fate. Branson's pockets are just too deep and his connections too powerful. But, as much as I dislike VA, they were never as big a threat to the profession as Skybus. As bad as a $90k/yr Airbus CA is, it's still a hell of a lot better than a $65k/yr Airbus CA.

Alot of former starcheckers there.
I still hope those guys can find a job someplace.
They didn't have evil intentions when they went there like some on theis forum believe.
Oh wells.

While this may be true, I refuse to believe that somewhere in their mind they didn't think this type of company wouldn't last.

That's a new one, people that take jobs just to waste their time. I always thought most people took jobs because of hope or as a stepping stone.

I knew something was up when one of our guys that left to be a mx control sup when SKybus started up, called the other day asking about possibly coming back. They knew it was coming.

Who is going to reimburse the pilots that were at Costco buying water when this was announced??

Thank God skybus is gone. soulja.gif

God only knows where the "professional" pilots who lost their jobs will go next...

Thanks, I came up with that all by myself. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see anyone lose their jobs though.
