I tried to veer him off, but he wouldn't listen. he says he will get turbine time much quicker this way... they guarantee placement too, he said he doesn't want to do CFI.... I told him not to waste his 35,000 and go get a nice corvette with that money instead but he wouldn't listen :(

just wanted to share. I'm done telling people what to do.

Perhaps you could put him in touch with someone who went to JetU? They would have the real skimmy on what happens afterwards. There were two in my class and a third in a different class who ended up being my sim partner who went to JetU. All thought it was a waste. heh

When he winds up at PCL with a deferred FMS, he'll learn real quickly what he missed out on. I listened to a JetU guy go on and on about how they trained for emergencies with PCL's manuals, and I said "What about a deferred FMS. How would you handle that?"

Uh.....uh.....Well....um.

"When do you change over from VOR to VOR?"

Oh, that. Well, I'm flying an airliner now. I don't have to worry about that anymore.

"Okay, genius. Keep thinking that. But don't complain when your CA berates you for not knowing basic IFR stuff. And I'm not gonna apologize for pimp slapping you if I happen to be that CA."

Um, not to bust your bubble, but the FMS at Jet U's CRJ isn't something we trained on a lot. MOST of the flying was done all green needles. I can't think of a single time I actually went white needles for any long period of time... It was usually always green needles, VOR to VOR, direct, radials inbound, outbound, etc.

For go arounds, there was no "white needles, auto-tune" in that sim... we did everything green needles. Green needle go around, and green needle holds.

Believe it or not, but white needle flying was actually something 'new' once I got to MEM.

Not to worry, your friend will get plenty of green needle flying at Jet U.

That having been said, I still dont recommend Jet U to anyone. Avoid that place like the plague.

Why, against all conventional wisdom, did you go initially?

Why would another potential applicant who is now where you were when you made the decision to go, listen to your advice, especially the advice of those that are now where they want to be in the future?

How did we lose you in the first place?

I had less than 250 hrs when I was hired into the CRJ. Only Jet U could have gotten you an interview with low time. Now, of course, I have much more; I've been off OE for a while now. It was either Jet U, or pay for Comm-single, CFI initial, CFI-I and MEI. I went with the first one. In retrospect, I don't regret the route (CRJ bridge program)... I only regret the place (Jet U). Knowing what I know now, I would have gone to CAE or ALLATPs. They have a better CRJ program.

I do have to say getting hired with less than 250 is def something my friend wants

I guess he will get what he wants.

that is crazy thoug.... what were your times when you got hired? less than 250? jeez.

Fairgame question, Cherokee. Since you say you wouldn't do it again, are you saying that you wish you had taken my advice?

I agree with the "say no to bridge program" crowd.

This will ultimatly bring down the industry and profession even more.

Next thing you know we will all be paying for TR's to get a job with a regional.

With the job market right now being pretty good, with fairly "low-time" guys getting hired, it is somewhat scary that people are spending this type of money to get a job....a poor paying one might I add, and the program doesnt even give you a TR.

This type of behaviour cannot become the norm.

In Europe it already has, and it is very difficult to get a job without self-funding your TR.

it is the inevitable... its where its going to end up in 10 years (actually more like 2)

If people continue to VOLUNTARILY pay for a part of their training then I'm afraid you are correct. Fortunently (but at the same time not so fortunently) pay at the regional level is far too low IMO for there to be enough people out of their minds like this to pay for these types of programs on a mass scale... for now anyways. If hiring slows and the demand for pilots decreases then there will most likely be no stopping this from becomming the norm as pilots are doing it now. Personally I think it is beyond rediculous. :banghead: It's taking the same road to how pay got this low in the first place.

TR = Type Rating

I would say that 1 airline could gather enough pilots to have them fly for free as long as they are making their 'transition' hours

I'm dead serious about that btw. there are handful of them out there

(hell, they are PAYING for it, i'm sure they'll do it for free! lol)
