CFI - Starting Salary up to $56,000 / yr.

Not a bad gig guys. That's a grip of money for just starting out. Like almost twice of what most folks at the regionals make their first year. Bakersfield isn't a bad place and there is great access to a ton of stuff that people seem to forget about. Yosemite is only a few hours away and tons of great flyfishing up on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Plan on spending around 700-1000 for rent and another 200 for utilities.
 
If the average is only 30-40hrs month, do you teach a lot of ground school or something because that only works out at 2hrs flight time/5 days a week? (obviously weather and other delays but why so little flight time)

I am just curious the money is excellent, just you would think they would try to have you flying more when they are paying you like that.

You are a sharp one, grasshopper. :D We're a bit spoiled. That's the beauty of working for a company that focuses more on quality of training than quantity.

Most instructors don't teach ground school, if you do, you get paid a little more. If you aren't flying, you are either waiting for weather or "on-call," which means you have to be able to get to the airport within an hour.

The fly fishing is great; and within an hour's drive from Bakersfield. There's a Fly Fishing club that has a lot of events in the summer.
 
If you look and are willing to have a roommate, you can find rent from 300-600. Also, my largest utility bill was around 100 this summer when the A/C was running 24/7. Seems to be one of the cheapest parts of CA to live in.
 
I wish I was at that point, that's some good money. I hope the CFI market continues like this for a little while.

That sounds like a pretty darn good gig if I ever saw one. My guess is the location puts a lot of people off, too bad there isn't something like that on the east coast.
 
Do you get to teach instrument students in the Bonanza? On their website it says that students do instrument in the baron.
 
It depends...

The Eva Airlines students get their instrument rating in the bonanza. The Japanese students do their instrument rating in the Baron. They do basic instrument flying, but no approaches or anything like that. As an instructor though, I taught DME arcs, holding, and even did ILS and VOR approaches because they have too much BIF prior to moving to the Baron.
