A couple of airplane/airport/cockpit pics from 07

Negative. I always wondered what the big deal is with absinth. As you can see it's expensive stuff so I never tried it. I'm a cheap vodka kinda guy.

What does one drink/mix with absinthe anyway? I read that there is some sort of legal absinthe you can get in the US now, but it's not the real stuff. Absinthe to me is like a Cuban cigar...I only really want one because I can't have one.

That's funny you ask that because that's exactly what I was trying to figure out while standing there looking at the bottle. I have no idea what you mix it with. I'm the same way, I wanted to try it because It's not legal here. Same with the Cubans, they sell those in Canada as well. I'm just too cheap to buy either of em.

I'm pretty sure Absinthe is illegal because it has woodworm or something along the lines that can make you hallucinate.

To be honest, i tried it in New Zealand, and besides being extraordinarily strong in alcohol (92% by volume) i didnt hallucinate or have any euphoria feeling. Not to mention you wont like it if you dont like black liqourice because that's exactly how it tastes!

Noticed that.....$88/ bottle. OUCH!

Not sure you'd mix it w/ anything....I think it's considered a liqueur....kinda along the lines of Sambuca and Galliano. Noticed it was placed next to the Galliano on the shelf.

So I wonder, can one get it in a bar/restaurant in Canada? That's about the only shot I'll have at getting some...that is if we're lucky enough to have a RON there.

You can do it as a shot if you want, but it's not too pleasant. There is nothing you can mix it with that would be even remotely good except the "proper" way which is sugar water. You pour some absinthe into a glass, then put a sugar cube on a fork (or an absinthe spoon), pour cold water over it into a glass to about a 3:1 ratio and drink. The sugar water reacts with some of the herbs in the absinthe which makes it cloud up and start to smell stronger. Some people absolutely hate it, I kinda like it. The taste when mixed this way is hard to describe, but to me it's more like some kind of a cold, black-liquorice-flavored herbal tea than any other kind of liquor. You don't see little green fairies or hallucinate at all, but it is a very different feeling than other types of alcohol. I feel more buzzed yet also more coherent in a weird way than if I had just drank an equivalent amount of something else. I haven't gotten a bad hangover from it either, even after drinking perhaps a little much. :bandit:

Also, as of very recently you can buy it in the U.S. now. I've had both what you can get here and some from abroad and didn't notice any big difference.

This is what I have, that you can get here: http://www.drinklucid.com/

Where I got it they didn't have it out on the shelves, I had to ask.

Re: Absinthe

Also, as of very recently you can buy it in the U.S. now. From what I understand (and I may be mistaken), the difference between what you get here and what you can get in another country is that here it's required to be tested for some dangerous ingredient that absinthe has long been believed to contain but supposedly never has in recent history. I've had both and didn't notice any big difference.

Might be hard to find, and where I got it they didn't have it out on the shelves, I had to ask.

You are correct about the absinthe, and yes, it does take like licorice!
