Funny morning smell... (Rant..ish)

I don't know what it is, but something stinks so bad that I am laughing my ass off. I'm not even mad. Maybe the Wilke is cooking bacon or something, but seriously, what the hell is that? I haven't ever smelled anything like it. What a silly place!

Hahahaha! I am so glad I don't have to deal with any smells anymore except the ocean breeze smell. :rawk:But soon I'm moving to the east coast.

He's at UND now...no more Oregon luxuries such as trees (real trees), hills, and mountains, not to mention the ocean. Haha I'm starting to miss Oregon already. :panic:

But what GFK lacks in terrain it makes up in entertainment and stuff to do. :sarcasm:

Hey, go south on Belmont Ave, then east on 62nd Ave South. Right before you pass over the manmade lake there's a hill that goes down, then up with some trees around. It makes you stop and wonder if you're really in Grand Forks for a split second... kinda pretty. Make sure you speed up to pretend you're a WRC racer :D.

Then there's a park with windy 1-lane roads that runs through it... I think it's near Lincoln Golf course. Speed up really fast around the turns and pretend you're on an autocross course :D ...I was always keeping my eye out for the park ranger when doing this. :D (Hey Angel, weren't you with me when we did this? Or maybe it was RyosukeFC)

Turtle River State Park is kinda nice....if you ever get a chance to go check it out.

Where is that at, by the way? The parks and trails back home are definitely what I miss the most. That park over on university is nice, but it's still kinda tiny, and there are always hordes of people over there too. I thought Red River State Park would be larger considering it was called a "State Park" but when I checked it out, it's just some campground in the middle of town. All the other parks I've checked out are kinda dinky too.

Yup... pretty fun place.

Red river state park used to be a neighborhood. After the flood no one was allowed to build in the flood plane. So they made it into a state picnic ground. Same thing with Lincoln drive park.

As for the guys whining about no ocean i hope you are ones who actually go to the ocean. Not live 3 hours away from it. I have been in Maryland since graduation and haven't went once. I'm pretty sure i went to the ocean more when i was in Minnesota. 3 hour drive vs 3 hour flight.

Funny story, i was talking to one of my buddies today that was complaining about having to do a debate tournament at the University of Puget Sound. He said something about the Aroma of Tacoma and i almost died.

Turtle River State Park is awesome for sure! I stayed there for a night and a day or so in the summer with a friend. Those hills are fun and it's like in the middle of nowhere ND with trees and hills. It's crazy, reminded me of Oregon a little bit.

I'm gonna have to check out the windy road, I miss Hwy 101 along the Oregon Coast. Although when driving when the roads are wet here you get some crazy great traction. :sarcasm: I've lost the back end a few times and had to counter-steer significantly to get it back. I can't wait till the roads get moist again. Gotta make some entertainment eh? :D Nothing beats a perfectly executed power slide. Gotta love RWD. Oh yeah the gravel roads next to the air base are a blast too!

EDIT: Turtle River State park is a little West of the Air Force Base. About 30 miles out of GFK (approximately).

My long lost friend. Where were you when I was living in GFK? Oh yeah, I had left right when you arrived.

I love the 101 :D and the PCH (HWY 1)...considered the most dangerous road in the USA (due to tight 5 MPH turns that sneak up on you with a lack of guard rails with 1000 foot cliffs running into the ocean!...etc). Gotta love it!

Of course, it's all about what you make of it! I mean look no further than the Dakota Student to tell you what's new right now!

http://media.www.dakotastudent.com/media/paper970/sections/20070925Life.html

In the latest LIFE section, we've got an article about an artist's reception that happened last weekend along with her new work that can be viewed any time between 10am and 4:30pm M-F, and a CD review about an album that the author does not recommend! Wow, I'm so inspired to get out and live life in Grand Forks!

EDIT: And yes, I have applied for a job at the DS to no avail. I must not make enough spelling/grammatical errors.

The ocean is pretty much my favorite place...

ah...

I wanna go there.:hiya:

Micaoct you want to drive home for the weekend?

Yeah 101 is great, when I went back after summer I went to the beach with a friend (shes a girl) so I couldn't really drive like I wanted on 101, I didn't want to scare her that much. :D

What sucks about GFK is that everyone's driving really sucks...example? Green light Protected Turn and they couldn't decide if they could go when they had the freaking green arrow in their face. Obviously you have priority then those in front...

I was looking forward to the AutoX but they just HAD to move it to Bismark right when I got here...Great!

juxtapilot- Sounds VERY tempting but it's like a 24 hour drive and I've been driving non-stop here anyway since the most entertainment you can find seems out of GFK. :D I want to go too but I don't think its worth driving 24 hrs for 1 day of hanging out in Oregon. Guess we have to wait till winter break. :panic:

Ugh back to studying, I got two tests today. Yesterday the 221 Block 2 snuck up on me.

Or when people stop on a "right-turn-yield-on-red" and wait for it to turn green.

Alerus no longer wanted to deal with the liability of "those snoody M3 and WRX and sports car owners" so they invited us to find another parking lot. There are no other capable parking lots to host an autocross in GFK, except for the Ralph Englestad parking lot... and we all know that if it's not a NASCAR race, UND wouldn't approve it. Plus I wouldn't blame them for not wanting the liability. :buck:

Fargo had events, but the parking lot used was in such bad shape that there was a potential safety hazard (I could just see a car tire digging sideways into a pothole and flipping over).

Now I can just drive 2 minutes down to the Qualcomm Stadium and find this every weekend (taken from a recent C152 flight): :D

Ah your so lucky! But you know your missing out on a lot of other fun filled activities in GFK...such as watching clouds go by and reading forums all day since you have nothing better to do. But you already are accostumed to those activities and have more experience then me. I can only imagine how it is in the winter. Winter Season should bring even more fun activities. :sarcasm:

Hey I can still make my own imaginary AutoX course at the Alerus as long as I don't stay too long I will be OK. :D The amount of cops here, especially on University Ave. is terrifying, it's like the whole police force is there. I already checked out most of the town, and a little bit of Winnipeg as well, I'm gonna REALLY run out of stuff to do soon. I can always watch the clouds go by.:sarcasm:

Edit: In the summer it was actually fun...

Yes! Many a fun time was had on those roads. Then there's the 3 s-turns, 42nd, the columbia-demers interchanges, and then the one that goes under the demers bridge near downtown.

Someone say auto-x?

This is probably the best action shot of the day of this thing. haha Judging by that one skid mark, someone either messed up or has no idea what the ideal racing line is for this set of corners. :)

I was expecting to receive a lot more flak showing up in an old lady car intending to auto-x it. One guy actually commended me saying I'd learn how to drive better in a car like that anyway. Which is true.

Minus the whole shifting technique thing, automatics FTL! :)

Dammit, I really wanted to auto-x one more time. :(
