Recall Statistics:
Delta furloughed 1,310 pilots during FM-I (post 9/11) and FM-II (Iraq Invasion).

Of those 1,310, all but 204 (16%) accepted recall…but not all of the 1106 who accepted recall, returned to active status. Some took MLOA and some took the fixed term 3 and 5 year PLOAs.

The final stats were as follows:

852(65%) accepted recall and returned to active status
32 (2%) are on 3 or 5 year PLOAs and the first group should be returning to active status at the end of this year
188 (14%) accepted recall an took MLOA
204 (16%) bypassed recall and have not returned yet
3 pilots passed away
31 (2%)pilots have resigned or retired since the first furlough in November 2000

Present:
Delta now has 6,950 pilots on its seniority list. All but 56 are active members and all of the 163 “New Hires” have applied for and been approved for “Apprentice” membership.

Delta has hired 163 pilots since February

New Hire Stats (as of July 16): 163 total
40 were prior military - 28 still actively drilling in guard or reserves
5 came from Airtran
6 came from American Eagle
51 came from ASA
7 came from Chautauqua
7 came from Comair
8 came from Express Jet
6 came from Jet Blue
10 came from Skywest
10 came directly from the Navy
15 came directly from the Air Force
4 came directly from the Marines
the others came from various carriers

New hires have been assigned MD-88, 737-800 and 767 F/O positions in ATL and NYC.
Seniority number issues:
Delta had mistakenly assigned seniority numbers in reverse order, but is correcting this mistake and we’ll make sure that all new hires are in the proper equipment and base without penalty to those who had already completed training on aircraft they might not have been able to hold had the mistake not happened.

Future:

Delta is expected to have at least two “New Hire” classes per month for the rest of the year. Each class is projected to have at least 20 pilots if not more in it. Therefore, the total number of “New Hires” is expected to exceed 350 this year. Rumors are that class sizes could grow to 30 or 45 every two weeks.

That explains part of our staffing problem. Hope this continues on into the future for everyone. Thanks for the scoop.

Now the question is...what's it take to get a call?

Good info, Doug. Glad to see Delta on the up and up.

Damn!!!

51 from ASA!

Does that have anything to do with the preferential hiring maybe??

Two guys from my newhire class at Skywest are already in class at Delta.

Thanks for the stats Doug!

It'll be nice to throw some hard facts next time someone says "All the airline pilots are ex-military!".

Because they took care of a lot of furloughed Delta pilots during the dark days.

The top of the ASA seniority list that wants to move seems to be moving on, either to mother Delta, or, now to NWA and UAL. However, it still seems as though the majors have not really felt a hiring crunch as everyone else in aviation has.

Any guesses as to when this will lead to better contracts?

Probably extend the favor. In fact, if you look at the ASA for Delta Connection carriers, it says that in exchange for preferential hiring of Delta furloughees, they supposedly get preferential hiring at Delta. Hence Pinnacle's new claim of "preferential hiring at Delta" in their recruiting stuff. Kinda odd to say we've got preferential hiring when just about every other airline is a Delta Connection carrier now, too.

Oddly enough, I just discovered we also have preferential hiring of NWA furloughs as part of the ASA signed back in December. Um, I thought that's what COMPASS was for?
