Doug, since when did CVG become a 767 pilot base?:confused: I thought ATL, SLC, JFK and ATL, were the only 767 bases. I saw there was a bid for 767FO

Edit: Duh! I forgot that it's 767/757, so I'm guessing it's for 757 lines.

767 = Domestic 757/767
7ER = International 767-300ER
765 = International 767-400
M88 = MD-88/90 (90's only in SLC)
73N = 737-800/-700
777 = I can't remember, I've got to look that one up!

I think that is the big hunk of metal with the strange pointy looking APU thing on the back.

Am I reading that right... they are adding 79 ER FOs in NYC with the junior number there just 100 below the new hire addition to ATL on the M88?

That's crazy. I guess I need to get my PIC time going.

The ER is a new hire position. The last bid had a hell of a lot of unfilled ER positions, they put it out for a bid, not enough did so it gives the company the contractual right to begin sending new hires to ER training for their initial aircraft assignment.

Some folks are upset, but I say 'good for 'em'. There were, once upon a time, people livid about new hires going straight to the Mad Dog because, "I was an engineer for six years!"

Sign of the times!

:laff:

I honestly don't know!

CVG 767, maybe. That's maybe, because I truly believe he'd be able to hold ATL 88A before a two year seat lock would be up. He disagrees and says because of age 65 that it'll be 5 more years before he sees a CA seat.

If he were to go to ATL on the 88 now, he'd have like, Christmas-off senority. Tempting, but he's gotten awfully spoiled to driving to work, which has been a nice change from years (over a decade) of commuting.

Too bad there's no ATL 88A vacancies on this bid!

so what pays higher? CA pay on the 88/90 or FO pay on the 767/757....isn't that what it should be about!? hahahahha ;)

The 767 is $12/hr more than the 88. That would be nice, but there's more to life than $. Time at home is far more important than $12/hr. To bid the ER in JFK would be a pay raise, BUT he'd have a lot of commuting expenses that would more than eat up the pay raise. Not to mention he'd lose a lot of time at home. So, for us, right now, doing the ER in JFK is not something he's interested in. Remember though, that he's already done international flying, the 767 with TWA.

Now a CA seat would be enough of an incentive to commute to ATL!

"The ER is a new hire position."
The 747-400 in ANC, which does Intl flying, is about to be a new hire position at UPS.

Wow, 649 total vacancies! Like KW said.....holy #&^#@ 195 88's open.

Doug, how is the new hire airframe awarded? Looking at the list above, many different types available....do you just bid your preference and then get something assigned? Or are the indoc classes scheduled for certain airframes so that the entire class moves through the process together?

Doug, or anyone who may know,

Do you think with the upcoming/current growth at LAX will DL add a new a/c type to the LAX domicile? 737 per chance?

Also, with the SLC MD-88/90 base, do you guys only fly the -90 the entire time, or can you get a line that includes -88 flying through ATL, or CVG?

Thanks!

Basically, they'll lump together whatever they have unfilled vacancies on and tell a class of 30 "Boys, we've got X "rockets", Y "gizmos" and Z "space ships"".

The people will put together a "wish list" of aircraft and desired bases and the most senior guy in class gets what he wants, and so on and so on.

The last couple of bids had unfilled 767 and 767 ER positions so I'm sure those are also on the plate for new hires to bid.

Wouldn't surprise me. Especially when the Pacific flying cranks up.

Ahh, goes back and forth. Some SLC lines have pure MD-90 flying, others have mixed MD-90 and MD-88 flying, while others just have a light sprinkle of MD-90 and far too much MD-88 flying.

Similar aircraft but WAY different line construction.

Awesome! Thanks for the info.....I'm glad to hear that new hires get to choose (according to seniority/ need/ etc.) the flying they'll be doing....instead of it being assigned an airframe by class date.

I don't really have the time yet......but my stuff has been in since Southernjets announced they're hiring again! :D I'm just going to keep updating my times as the months go by.
