Coolest Arrival / Departure / Airport

Isnt there a restriction over D.World like there is over D. Land? Do they just let you fly through it because your on an approach, or is it off to the side enough that you bypass it?

This is text from the TFR over DL and DW:

No pilots may operate an aircraft in the areas covered by this NOTAM (except as described).
This restriction does not apply to:

(A) Those aircraft authorized by ATC for operational or safety purposes, including aircraft arriving or departing from an airport using standard air traffic procedures;

Jackson County, TN it is very small and kind of tucked in beside a hill with a river and another hill. I believe it is 1A7 on the St. Louis sectional, TN/KY line, just NE of BNA. I'll try and snap some shots the next time I go in. We usually try and fly the river bottom out of there.

No, as long as you're in contact with Orlando Approach you can enter the TFR even if you're only under VFR. They are not very strict with it once they know you are there and sometimes will even guide you around the parks for sightseeing. I love Orlando Appch/Dept :nana2:

These are all as a passenger but I guess they'll be cool for a PIC/FO as well.

I'm not going to seperate Arrival/Departure so here's my list:

SAN (hometown airport so I've done this one MANY times).
LAX (at night...daytime has too much smog)
ORD (at night...very symmetrical city blocks)
SFO (any clear day so you can see GG bridge)
BOS (is cool if it's a tad bit foggy)
DCA (when you can get that "special" runway)
MIA (at night for the "light show")

SBH - St Barths (the Arrival is WICKED) and I guess takeoff in the opposite direction (than normal) would be pretty eerie as well)

Pretty much any airport landing in the caribbean is nice because I like the multiple shades of blue in the water.

Best Arrival:
Golden gate arrival into SFO. From Point Reyes to the Golden Gate Bridge. Over Alcatraz, the Embarcadero, Bay Bridge, downtown SF, Pac Bell Park, and then over the bay for right downwind to runway 28R.

Also, the Bay Tour departure is a fun one. I see Aloha does it daily. If you are in SFO and there is no fog, request to do a bay tour. All your pax will love it.

And when you land for your layover, have fun! :D

(the musician playing the trumpet is my oldest boy)

SkyCougar, that's cool your son got on that video. I presume he plays professionally. I haven't picked up my trumpet in five years though. :p

Whoever mentioned Catalina in a bunch of posts back, I totally agree, that approach is really cool and flying around the island at 500 feet above the ocean is a lot of fun. I was fortunate to be able to do that last year

I also second the LOC 28 at Monterey, California. The first time I did was after we shot two approaches into nearby Salinas and saw absolutely nothing at minimums at 5:00AM. We diverted to Monterey and I'm glad we did because the view of the fog over the ocean was awesome as we were coming in over the mountains littered with mansions on the bright green hills.

Yeah, Monterey, Ca. (MRY) is pretty awesome as well, especially the departure off of 28 when you make the left turn over pebble beach. Not as fun in a jet since you fly by it so fast, so the arrival arrival rwy 10 is better, when it's clear that is. When it's clear though, 28 is usually used for obvious reasons.

Thanks Nick sweety! :) Yeah,my boy is a pro musician, and was invited and honored to be the featured artist in the Best of SF annual poll. He plays around the Bay Area alot, as well as out on the road, and plays on other people's records. His mama is proud of him. :)

You should pick up that horn again and start playing! :p Bumblebee is a musician too.

VFR down Silver Bay to RWY 29 in Sitka, AK.
RNAV RNP to RWY 26 in Juneau. Super scenic in VFR weather.

Velo, did you already have your SFO layover this week? I'm back in town, but heading back out again - just checked in to the Doubletree for an early morning departure. If you're around, let's go have that cigar. :D :p The bayside walk is awesome today!

I love departing LAX to the west. Flying over the ocean and turning on course and seeing other resently departed planes at the same altitude or below you.

Love it!

I saw one vote, but as a pax I love going into San Diego. Come in over the hills and right through downtown... Dayuuuuum, those bldgs look close.

EVERYTIME I have flown into SAN they have been fogged in. So the cool part of that approach for me has always been desending into the fog.

Popping out just above the hill and then spying downtown which isn't really at a distance!
