ExpressJet Baby Removal Update (well, kinda)

:yup: Maybe a lead

Expressjet 1

Lousy passenger trying to make a big deal out of everything to make money and be famous 0

:nana2: I think we have a WHINNNNER

that kid is way out of control! benadryl would have done nothing for that kid. a few hits of hydro and he would be out the whole flight. :) i kid i kid

Now I know the mother is an idiot! She only hurt her "case" by letting her son on the set for the interview. I guess she hasn't learned her lesson that toddlers that age are VERY unpredictable. It would have been better had she let them take a quick "cute" shot of him and done the interview solo. Just my .02 (and as a mom of three and a former pre-school teacher!) :)

I would like to hear from passengers that were on the flight with that little brat. There is nothing worse than being on a flight with a screaming child, Dante's version of hell.

A parent's thoughts:

Taking a 19 month old on a morning news program is a bad idea. Why? Because the kid is 1000 miles from home, in a strange environment, surrounded by strangers and bright lights and very, very out of his/her element. There's no way you can expect a kid of 19 months to be a perfect angel in a situation like that. I really think bringing the kid to the interview was just a bad idea to begin with.

They gave the kid a toy (the shuttle/airplane) and as the kid was playing with it, rolling it along the table (as a kid would do) it rolls off. Now the cool new toy is in sight, but out of reach. Of course he's going to cry! How about picking up the plane and giving it back? He was looking right at the plane on the floor as he was crawling on the table.

Keep in mind this kid is 19 months old, he's not a 5 year old with a 5 year old's ability to sit and listen and follow direction.

I think it was a bad idea to have the kid on the interview in the first place. 19 months is a hard age, they're not a "baby" anymore, but they don't have the full capacity and control of a older tot (say 3-ish).

As for what happened on the airplane, I'm still waiting to hear both sides. I have no doubt the kid could have been a monster, and I also have no doubt the F/A could have been on a massive power trip.

I take my kids out in public, and they have good days and bad days. On the bad days, if they're causing a scene, we leave the situation. Age-appropriate measures are then taken to help them understand what behavior is and is not appropriate. I could see my 2 1/2 year old having a fit if put in a situation like being on an early-morning TV show (that's why I'd never take him on a morning TV show!). It's part of his personality, and yes, children's personalities differ ;) YOUR perfect little angel girl is NOT my acrobatic little boy! So, I treat him as such. I teach him how to behave, but know that at his age tantrums occur, and I have no problem removing him from the situation. He WILL learn, he IS learning, and as he grows and matures his ability to control himself will continue to grow too. As an example, my 4 year old I have no doubt would be able to behave in that situation. Why? Because he's older, and we could explain to him what is going to happen and what is expected of him. He would have the control necessary to sit still for the few minutes for the segment to tape. He has learned (and yes, kids have to learn) how to behave, and is old enough to apply those lessons.

I can't believe what some of you are saying! You can't drag a kid all over, get them off schedule, put them in a strange environment, and then expect them to behave! The mom should have known better, however, to call the kid a brat, say he needs a shock-collar, saying he needs to be beaten or given drugs??? WTH?? He's a little kid!! Yeah, beat him, see if that helps. :whatever: The mom was probably pressured by GMA to have him on the show, you don't know! From the report from the other passengers, they thought the kid was behaving just fine. Good hell, you people are so intolerant and quick to judge!

I actually have no problem with a good spanking when necessary! None at all :)

However, spanking only works when it's a deterrent. When I'd spank my older boy, he'd laugh. When spanked harder, he'd laugh again. It simply was not his "currency". But, when I take away his Leapster, now that gets his attention! Now, the mere mention of putting his Leapster in the basement brings on good behavior :) Instead of getting so angry that I'd spank him hard enough to cause physical harm to him, I instead decided to find what works for him to make him behave. He responds VERY well to threats of taking away a favorite toy. Why? Because I don't just threaten to take it away. I DO. One warning, then the toy goes away. He knows this, and will control his behavior.

As for my 2 1/2 year old, I'm still figuring out his currency. He has been spanked a couple times, mostly for jumping on the furniture. His personality is VERY different from his big brother's, and the spanking got his attention to a far greater degree than it did with big brother.

"HIT IT" is a cute slogan, but I don't go by it. Sorry.

Might not help, but it'll shut him up!

OK, maybe not the shock collar.

On second thought . . .

Beating a 19 month old, I dare to say, will probably just make him cry more.

Giving a 19 month old Benadryl, might make him more calm, but, did you know that antihistamines like that make some kids hyper? Yup! It's right there on the package, "may cause excitement, especially in young children". My 4 year old does not respond to coedine in the usual manner. Coedine usually makes kids pass out. It puts my 2 1/2 year old straight to sleep. It keeps my 4 year old up for hours. Not kidding! When I was a kid I underwent massive allergy therapy, which included testing a whole boatload of different medications. Some antihistimines would put me to sleep and some would make me very hyper.

Definitely doesn't work for all kids.

Now, MY 11 year old? If she's screwing up, all I have to do is say "Hush it and sit down", and she does. If, for some reason she's been smoking crack and decides to keep it up, all I have to do is reach for my belt. That's the end of it. She very quickly finds a silent, motionless means of self entertainment.

She learned that when she was about 18 months old.

I also taught her that it's not enough to be on the honor roll - you also have to be able to kick the butts of everyone else on the honor roll - boys included.:D

I'm sure you could with some kids, but if you know that your kid is prone to tantrums (the mom did talk about how on her next flight the kid threw the "fit of the century"), then it's probably a really good idea to limit how much you take them out in places where it's going to inconvenience everyone around you.

The mom was probably pressured by GMA to have him on the show, you don't know!

This woman clearly loves being in the limelight about this whole issue and playing herself and kid off as victims. This interview backfired on them big time.
