If anyone wondered how bad Mesa needs pilots...

Next bid in IAD there are NO lines of reserve. Every single pilot on the roster will hold a hard line. The scary thing is I know 2 pilots on the bottom of the roster that arent even finished IOE yet and wont make it to IAD till the first week in Aug....

so what do they have to do to get themselves out of this situation?

pull a PSA and have no minimums? or more $$$ orrrr, just leave the airlien industry :D

I think Mesa is shipping aircraft to China later on this year...they will be reducing their domestic presence here I think.

They are swapping out 700's for 200's so they wont be doing it that way. I think they are going to have to let the United flying go. They are trying to staff it by pushing people through groundschool, but they dont have enough IOE pilots on the line to train. You should hear some of the stories I have been hearing, people failing 2-3 checkrides and still being pushed to the line or people doing doing 60-100 hours of IOE, I actually know of a guy who did 106 hours....

Plus there is like 80 hours of open time.....

that's what i've heard too....i actually find it good to hear that there are no reserves.. I wonder just how many people are getting certified letter right now saying they have to pay back their training?

stuff like that makes it extremely important to read the fine print

what happens if someone fails a checkride 2-3 times? just curious

bye bye?

Not even that.

But if even a 1/5 of Mesa's pilot staff - just up and LEFT for other companies. . .it would be a serious damper on JO's future plans, at least stateside.

Perhaps then, Mesa as a company, could grow into better work rules, and pay. Or would just disappear into something else. That way, ALPA wouldn't have to worry about putting out satirical PRO-STANDS videos.

But - I'm not holding my breath.

They're going to have to because demand for 50 seat jet feed isn't exactly what it was back in the early 2000's.

Exactly. Thats why United is getting at the end of their rope with Mesa. The contract was for 700's and United isnt happy that they arent there. The new order for 10 is a CYA thing since if Mesa is dropped they can atleast say they tried to comply with the contract.

If someone fails the checkride once they are supposed to get 1 retry and then shown the door. One was given 2 rides and when she failed the third, was told she needed to observe a ride and then take it herself. All the newhires are supposed to come here to IAD since it is the most junior, but they are canabalizing other crews from bases to cover this. They actually did a "reposition" flight from PHX 3 days ago full of crews for ORD and some to spill to IAD. I dont know how we will cover open time too since one line has 12 days off, 6 have 11, and the rest are 10. I guess they will be JAing everyone.....

LOL its not a question of if, its happening. I have gone up 267 spots in seniority since APRIL. I checked that 2 days ago and there is only one person who does bids and rosters and she is always behind so there may be more.

Heh we wish. JO will find a way to use this t his advantage, and get concessions.....making it worse.

I see.

I'm sure failing it twice does not look good on your record either for other airlines to see :(

IMO, I think Mesa is gonna slowly back off the mainland and concentrate on China and Hawaii. I'll be very surprised if they are still with United by the end of the year. Big question is, who's gonna get that flying? Air Wisconsin is a big player from what I've heard, and I'd say Pinnacle would probably go after it as well. Problem is, Pinnacle's gonna have a tough time ramping up to cover the Delta flying. If it's a staffing thing, I'm afraid that it's gonna be tough all around for whoever United goes with.
