OK, What is everyone driving to the airport and the approx one way mileage to said airport! Looks like I might need to change vehicles now that I have SJS. I was going to look into a new car this summer, now trying to decide what it should be. Also please not type of pilot you are.

Thanks in Advance!

The ugliest thing possible that is reliable.

The perfect airport car

Only if I could find one.

92 Pontiac, 17 miles. Not a knob in the car except for the radio and I'm still fly.

Just sold 87 Nissan Sentra airport car because housing association would not allow junk cars in our subdivision. I am looking at a 1997 Jeep Wrangler with 162,000 miles on it but the owner wants a bit much for it. I am not paying a dime over $2800.

12 miles to/from work

I need to get a better airport car. I have a 96 explorer with 160.000 on it that runs great but sucks way too much gas. I am seriously considering leasing toyota corolla or some other small asian car. I need something reliable and good on gas. I was also thinking about getting a cheap motorcycle but that might not make as much sense. Problem is its harder than you think to find a decent car for 2 grand! I am an aspiring regional pilot who has yet to land a job, but with todays market shouldn't take me too long.

1989 Mazda MX-6 w/ 194,000 miles. 30 MPG, nice cold AC, about 16 miles each way.

I'm thinking about getting another used car, maybe a small pickup truck or something for chores around the house. I was looking in the local paper and I always laugh when I see the ads that say "Never Drag Raced" or something like that. If I list my car I'll have to write "Totally Peels Out" or "Lays Some Sweet Wheel".

I'm driving a 98 Cherokee Sport. I think it's got almost 140,000 on it and still manages about 21 mpg. My drive is 26 miles.

Sure makes doing out and backs expensive.

BHB is 45 miles or so from my parents place in Bangor. There are a few different ways to get there. Takes 50 minutes to get there right now, it will be 70 minutes once all the tourists come. I don't know the mileage from BHB to my camp but it takes about 25 minutes. Most of the variation comes from having to turn left onto the one road that goes to the island.

The FBO in BGR is 6.3 miles from my folks place and the employee lot is 5.2.

I drive a '94 Honda del sol, 30+ mpg.

'96 Honda Civic DX. 12 miles to work. Part 121 Shiny Jet Driver. It dosen't smell like dog anymore, but it always sounds like Soterios Johnson.

Why would anyone buy a 'new' airport car? I only ever saw one car unfit for airport duty, and it was being weighed.

I was wondering if anyone did any "major" driving commutes. But 404 seems a bit long. I figure I might have a 100-150mile one way commute. This leaves my options open for multiple companies.

Well, I know a few people that commute about 200 miles to work. One of them has a gas guzzling F150, one drives a Civic and one is a daddy's girl and drives Jetta (but probably doesn't pay for gas).

Tracy, if you are still thinking of coming over here and driving from CAK let me know and I'll ask for fuel/millage/time numbers from some of the CAK guys.

That is why I was asking! I still might have to use my car initially, I can just increase the insurance on it! Its either that or get permission to park the plane at the PSA hanger! :D
